Sumaguing Cave, Sagada

4.7
#1 of 37 in Parks in Cordillera Region
Known by its nickname "Big Cave," Sumaguing Cave has the largest chambers of any cave in the area. Experience this natural wonder and its limestone formations via guided walking tours or spelunking. Though the latter is more adventurous, the former is very informative and entertaining. But be warned--if you have a fear of heights or tight spaces, this attraction may not be right for you. Although I like to hike, climb over hill and Dale and likes exciting tours, this was absolutely a horrible trip. Since the Europeans of course not so skilled is flop wear and especially climbing with flip, like the Filipino, the Council of this footwear is definitely inappropriate... I thank God wore my shoes by prior off flight experience in the Philippines and could away smile so the nice note of the Guide, which was of the opinion, my shoes would be unsuitable for the slippery stones... close. That absolutely nowhere is a way to hang on to (except at the stones themselves) the whole thing is really very dangerous... Who is not walking or has other restrictions, should make this trip definitely not... The way back is very strenuous, but more comfortable than the climbing and sliding... Except you should take along a waterproof camera at best nothing... Wet is a wrong step and you completely... and free hands are a must...

You cannot say you've been to Sagada without trying the Sagada cave spelunking. It's cold inside so you won't feel sweaty while doing the course. It can get super slippery tho so make sure you are wea...  more »

I signed up for the Lumiang-Sumaguing Cave connection and I wasn't disappointed. Friendly guides and beautiful rock formations and small water pools inside. Will definitely come back to take more awesome photos.

Very interesting! Went in with a friendly guide. If one's a bit adventurous, I recommend to try the Lumiang connection.

It offers you adventure spelunking. I could give 5 stars too but it isn't like ot used to be... still a great thing to do in Sagada..

Our guide said it's easier to manage the slippery rocks on bare feet which was true :) wear gloves as the stage 1 of the cave have plenty of rocks with bat pee. For the adventurous and a bit fit, go finish the full course of the cave at the "tunnel". There are ropes that can help manage some of the tricky spots.

Not for the faint heart. Did Lumiang and Sumaging cave route and oh my.... 4 hours inside the cave felt like forever. Must wear your trekking shoes. I highly suggest you start the tour in the morning. We did ours past 3pm and ended around 7ish. We decided to have dinner out but most food chain and stores were closed by 8pm. Listen to the guides and trust in them!!!!

Where to stay in Sagada

Though remote, Sagada has established itself as a tourist destination, and therefore offers a range of accommodations for its guests. You won't find sparkling new hotels here, but that's the point. Seemingly every house acts a guesthouse across the modest urban area close to the bus stop. You'll find some offering a few more facilities, like onsite restaurants serving local cuisine, hot water, outdoor activity equipment rental, and tour booking. Some have a particularly rustic aspect to them, with their wooden designs fitting in with the landscape that surrounds, while some others remain very basic indeed.
