Sumaguing Cave, Sagada

4.7
#1 of 49 in Parks in Cordillera Region
Known by its nickname "Big Cave," Sumaguing Cave has the largest chambers of any cave in the area. Experience this natural wonder and its limestone formations via guided walking tours or spelunking. Though the latter is more adventurous, the former is very informative and entertaining. But be warned--if you have a fear of heights or tight spaces, this attraction may not be right for you. • Sagada trip is not complete without doing cave connection. Going to the cave feels frightening, but once inside, you will definitely be captivated. Its full of surprises, you can’t guess where is the right way-out and feels incredible that a person can go through the tiny hole to pass through. So many amazing stalagmite/stalactite. One of the best and death-defying experienced. Thanks to our 3 local guides that keep us safe all through out.
  • The guides were cool. You have to be very careful with your steps though. It is very slippery when wet. Make sure that you're wearing a footwear that is durable enough when entering this cave as this cave is known as the killer of slippers and sandals.
  • Very old cave formation....It's quite adventurous and really refreshing experience down there and the caves have water flow with small falls and an unknown depth pond ...Caves are full of different rock formation like giant tortoise formation and dinosaur footprint and mother giving childbirth to name a few.. Advice: a guide is necessary to make it into and out of the caves. And the guides are very very helpful without them our group would have taken for ever to reach top.
  • One should be ready to get dirty in entering this cave. I suggest that you bring gloves here, it will indeed help you a lot through your journey down below the ground. Bats feces and urine are everywhere in the second stage / level of this cave so brace yourself to the smell and be careful not to slip as it gets slippery. Better wear leggings or right attire before you enter this beautiful cave as it will surely give you a souvenir of bruises and scars. Good luck!
  • Be really prepared when you go here. There is a part where you have to go barefoot and will get wet, so it is advisable to not wear jackets and just wear light clothing and to not bring big cameras or bags as well. Be ready physically since it will be really exhausting but the local guides are really helpful and will entertain you as well with stories around the cave.
