Lumiang Cave, Sagada

4.6
#4 of 9 in Nature in Sagada
Take an adventurous and education tour of Lumiang Cave, the site of ancient burials. Expect a challenging tour involving waist-high water, rappelling, rock climbing, and more. Inside the caves, you'll see hundreds of wooden coffins grouped or scattered around. An experienced guide will manage your tour while you walk around the space, illuminated only with oil lamps. If you consider yourself claustrophobic, consult with your guide before entering. Dress appropriately for an active visit. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Sagada trip simple and quick.

  • I still wonder how they got all those coffins on top of the cave entrance. It's a good site to learn more about the igorot culture.  more »
  • It was the first time me and my friend went into caves and were not well prepared. Make sure to have enough water and a headlamp. Although the guide was very nice and always helped us climbing up and ...  more »
  • You can do the view part only. I recommend those who have weak hearts, clausterphobia or afraid of heights to NOT do the cave connection. It’s very demanding and dangerous. (We were not properly brief...  more »

  • Nothing spectacular but since you're already in Sagada, you might as well go. I enjoyed the echo valley trail much more. There isn't much to see here. However, hearing about the history of the cave and the coffins was very interesting. Sight seeing wise, there isn't much to see.
  • With only a guide with a kerosene lamp, yourself and a lot of courage. Brave through this once-in-a-lifetime cave spelunking! Dive into the gaping zero visibility darkness of Lumiang cave and be ready for one hell of a tour. Ranging from burial coffins at the entrance, squeezing into super tight spaces, rappelling up and down near 90 degree rocks formations, walking beside cliffs with seemingly bottomless abysses, traversing murky chilling waters with no way of knowing whats below and finally emerging at the mouth of Sumaguing cave, you'll have an appreciation of how good it is to still be alive and in one piece. P.s. the guides are also proficient in English, Filipino and are experts at their trade, trust their lead and they'll keep you safe and out of harms way!
  • There seems to be two tours; one where you walk down pay away and back up and another where you squeeze through tiny spaces and hang over inner cave cliff edges without any safety gear (only a lamp). The latter was so much good damn fun and a bit of an adrenaline rush. Very highly recommended! Make sure to go to the actual tourist office, where the local people are the guides, and not SAGGAS.
  • When you see it! Sagada and its rich history can be found here! Though guide is a must, best if you also ask and engage them... you'll be surprise.
  • Its the connection to the sumaging cave you'll see the old coffins hangging
