Avilon Zoo, Rodriguez

#2 of 34 in Outdoors in Calabarzon Region
Take in the wide array of wildlife at Avilon Zoo, the country's largest zoo. Over 3,000 individual specimens, including 600 different species of mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians call the zoological center home. Guided tours of the zoo educate you about local animal and plant life, as well as efforts to conserve and protect the natural environment, including animal breeding programs. The interactive zoo gives you the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the friendlier residents, including orangutans, miniature horses, and the Philippine eagle owl. A first-class zoo in suburban Rizal, it is comparable to Singapore Zoo in terms of expanse and animal variety. It feels though that the zoo is understaffed and the place is too big to roam into without printed maps and guides. Nevertheless, as a first of its kind zoo in the country, there is so much potential and room for improvement.

Too many kinds of animals in the zoo. It is very nice to let your kids see personally those animals that ussually can be seen in the wild.
