Plaza Cuartel, Puerto Princesa

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.1/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web
Behind a cathedral and near the old fort sits Plaza Cuartel, dedicated to the memory of the American soldiers who were burned alive by the Japanese in World War II. Near the end of the war, Japanese forces imprisoned 143 American soldiers and forced them to enter the narrow tunnel, which they doused with gasoline and set on fire. See the memorial plates and pictures of the 11 survivors. The memorial stone in the center of the square--topped by a figurine of a man in chains--bears the names of all the solders from the garrison. • A small park located next to the Cathedral in the old part of the city. Place the memory of American soldiers, martyred by the Japanese during WWII. Nothing particularly notable. But we hit on some festive costume event a great company of the locals. They have photo and television filming. Had fun. It was interesting from the view on their colorful costumes. True hilarity with the memory of American soldiers not exactly matched!

  • Well maybe it's a nice place to see in a city tour but nothing much. Just took pics and then we left
  • The place is getting better, with the improvements going around the place. This is a medium-sized park where you'll see at least one couple hanging around. If you just went to the city's cathedral for a prayer/visit, then why not go here? Plaza Cuartel is just across the street.
  • A quick stopover just to see some greenery and a WWII memorial
  • It was a park can see the cruelty of the war. This very painful past.
