Cagsawa Ruins Park, Legazpi

4.3
#1 of 22 in Sightseeing in Bicol Region
Religious Site Tourist Spot
The building remains at Cagsawa Ruins Park provide a ghostly reminder of a town destroyed by a violent volcanic eruption. Centered primarily on a 16th-century Franciscan church, the ruins consist of a burnt-out stone belfry and surrounding foundations. Explore the site to get a sense of how the area looked before the eruption of nearby Mount Mayon, which obliterated the town in 1814. Make your way up to the ruined bell tower, covered in jungle growth, and peek inside--townsfolk sheltered here during the eruption. Don't miss the small plaque on the outside of the structure detailing more of the church's earlier history. • Cagsawa Ruins is a very amazing place. We only had a couple of minutes to explore the place and take pictures, but it was all worth it. The place will take you back to your elementary days when you study about the historical places in the Philippines. The Mayon Volcano was as majestic as it was taught back then. Seeing them in person was breathtaking. We are planning to go back once our kid is older. Great place πŸ–’πŸ–’πŸ–’
  • Historical indeed.. and scenic. But crowded too since it is very popular. You'll always end up with a photo bummer with u πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ So LigΓ±on Hill is better if you don't want photo bummer. Unless u don't care with photo it'll be 5/5.
  • Beautiful, cheap admission fee and parking fee. Great place for pictures. The little shops around are nice as well.
  • The perfect place to view Mt. Mayon. You would also see the ruins of Cagsawa church. If you want souvenirs, try shopping in the numerous stores in the vicinity.
  • It's been my third time here over the years. The place doesn't change much. It has a good view of the Mayon Volcano but it does get a little too crowded and taking pictures can be a drag. Still a wonderful place to go to nonetheless
