Cagsawa Ruins Park, Legazpi
(4.2/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
The building remains at Cagsawa Ruins Park provide a ghostly reminder of a town destroyed by a violent volcanic eruption. Centered primarily on a 16th-century Franciscan church, the ruins consist of a burnt-out stone belfry and surrounding foundations. Explore the site to get a sense of how the area looked before the eruption of nearby Mount Mayon, which obliterated the town in 1814. Make your way up to the ruined bell tower, covered in jungle growth, and peek inside--townsfolk sheltered here during the eruption. Don't miss the small plaque on the outside of the structure detailing more of the church's earlier history. • Overlooking the mayon volcano was a spectacular site. Lots of mini shops here where you can buy souvenirs but a bit pricey. You can rent an ATV nearby outside the ruins if you're interested on an addi...  more »

  • View from the ruins is still the same, amazig view of Mayon. But the area outside got is now crowded. Too many business establishments within the vicinity. Almost destroyed the beauty of this historical place.
  • Place is so worthy to reach. Very natural and really a place to reach. Great timing due to mayon showed its peak. I loved it here.
  • The site is very historic and grand. However, crowds of tourists loitering in all directions spoil an otherwise scenic view. I tried miserably to get back just to get a clear view of Mayon, free from clouds and the crowds, but of no avail. I hope local authorities could come up with a mechanism to regulated the crowd specially the random taking of pictures. Authorities may designate a particular site where photos could be taken in turn while the crowd lay in wait. Hope this happens
  • One of the famous (few) landmarks in Legazpi. Great view of Mayon (background)
  • It's no doubt a beautiful place. If anyone wants to enjoy the view of Mayon Volcano and the fresh air, this is one of the few places to offer both
