Enchanted River, Hinatuan

4.3
#1 of 12 in Things to do in Surigao del Sur Province
Veiled by the Philippine jungle, Enchanted River springs seemingly out of nowhere and runs a short distance before it flows into the Philippine Sea. A dirt road and uneven pathways with natural steep steps lead you to the river, where you can swim in salt water only 15 m (50 ft) deep, and watch the fish feeding at noon. You can even rent a small boat and sail out to the ocean. The mysterious river has inspired legends of fairies, ancestral spirits, and uncatchable fish that dwell in its jade and sapphire waters. Ongoing explorations of the underground system of caves, which started in 1999, have not yet determined the origin of the river. The river is really one of its kind with its clear waters and unfathomable depth. It is still full of mysteries as to the source of its water. However, the sad part is that swimming is no longer allow...  more »

It all boils down to money. Cannot swim without renting a life vest (15 pesos per hour) even the water is shallow, tour boats going to the sea is now 500 per hour although it used to be 300 pesos for ...  more »

I know I'm being repetitive as seen in the other reviews but I'll say it anyway, whoever gave the name "Enchanted" couldn't have picked a better word. While the surrounding area was okay, some litter ...  more »

The name itself speaks about itself! Very enchanting! A place where everybody should try to visit as this river will mesmerize you from its very crystal clear water.

The water is very deep and the color is very blue! I like how the government did a move to retain it's natural beauty... When we went last year it was very crowded and the bathrooms are very filthy... Now the made a very big change.. Swimming in the part where it is very deep is now prohibited... it is only available for picture taking not for swimming... good job!

A very beautiful and mysterious river. Its "pepsi-blue" water teeming with big fishes is really a mystery to most. It is a fact that its depth is not yet fully measured and nobody knows where it leads. Just recently, swimming in it was banned. Lucky for me I got to take a dip in it a few years back.

I am totally enchanted with the place. The LGUs have an organized system to accommodate the visitors. The trip is quite long but it is definitely worth it! Also, island hopping is offered at the end part of the river.

The river's amazing blue waters whose depth has yet to be explored is what makes this place enchanting. There are times though that this place can be overcrowded by locals and tourists. Nonetheless, this tourist destination is surely a captivating sight to behold.
