Enchanted River, Hinatuan

#1 of 12 in Things to do in Surigao del Sur Province
Veiled by the Philippine jungle, Enchanted River springs seemingly out of nowhere and runs a short distance before it flows into the Philippine Sea. A dirt road and uneven pathways with natural steep steps lead you to the river, where you can swim in salt water only 15 m (50 ft) deep, and watch the fish feeding at noon. You can even rent a small boat and sail out to the ocean. The mysterious river has inspired legends of fairies, ancestral spirits, and uncatchable fish that dwell in its jade and sapphire waters. Ongoing explorations of the underground system of caves, which started in 1999, have not yet determined the origin of the river. • No big fish as they had sold them to be fried a while ago we are told. Toilets were disgusting so we did not swim either. How much effort would be to clean your toilets regurarly? This seems to be a t...  more »
  • Described as enchanting river and it truly is! The water is so clear that one could see the colorful fishes swimming. The color of the water is so blue and refreshing to the eyes.  more »
  • This place is truly enchanted. Just seeing the river makes you want to stay for longer. Plus, the river is unique since it is salt water. Moreover, they have rides which you can enjoy if you have more time. If you get hungry, they have a market where you can buy scrumptious, fresh fish and various seafoods. They also have a canteen where you can eat the foods - just pay an additional amount for the canteen, but you can just wait there for your cooked foods to be delivered right at your table. One downside is its distance from the city, and its lack of accessible roads. But being there is both an adventure and enchantment.
  • Very enchanting! They allow you to smin in the river but not close to the deep side because of strong current. I like the fact that local government is strict in implementing their rules to preserve the serenity of the river. A must-see!
  • I actually expected so much in this place but I was disappointed when I get there. I don't like the water it's brownish but I enjoyed their island hopping though. People in Surigao are very nice, honest and accomodating. You will never go wrong in Surigao.
  • Enchanting place! A well preserved wonderful piece of nature. The fish feeding at 12 pm is the highlight of the tour. Must see
  • We enjoyed our visit here even if we were not able to catch the 12nn feeding time where they say fishes gather to a feeding frenzy. It is very clean, clear and the most beautiful river I’ve ever seen. They don’t allow food in the river area to preserve its cleanliness, you are only allowed to bring water or any drinks. They don’t have a cottage or table near the river so don’t bring a lot of things.
