Matinloc Island, El Nido

(4.6/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Bask in crystal clear waters and swim to secret white sand beaches at Matinloc Island. Renowned as an area of extraordinary natural splendour, you’ll feel like you’ve found your very own piece of paradise here. Climb to the highest point on the island for incredible views of the surrounding archipelago. If you’re feeling adventurous, make your way to the island's "secret beach." Inaccessible by boat, visitors must swim underwater through a gap in the rock wall to reach the small beach, which is supposedly the very same spot that inspired Alex Garland's famous novel, "The Beach." Plan to see Matinloc Island and other attractions that appeal to you using our El Nido trip generator.

  • This is a great place to snorkel. There are just so many different types of fish. They have big spools of fish. I had a great time. You must come snorkeling.  more »
  • Beautiful location on a small island with an abandoned building, where everything is preserved as if the owners got recently. Marble sculptures with subtle carvings, water tanks, shiny as if their today naterli, an empty dock. Just some mystique. Here is the climb up the rock, which offers a beautiful sea view.

  • Getting to the island is an experience that won't be forgotten soon. Depending on the tide you either paddle or wade out to the boat to take you to the island. The boat trip is lovely and staff are ha...  more »

  • Love this hotel, place, staff everything was more than perfect
  • Private island ...very quiet and reserved. Great for couples. PS: Bring your alcohol.
  • It is only because I feel I owe it to all of El Nido to affirm what has been written by the appreciative writer before me, that I dare write anything now . Like him I think the treasures of the place are so beautiful and unique. I never tire of telling my friends that being in El Nido is being right there on the first day of creation. But unlike the writer of the review, I brought my Nikon with me. Like him, though, I did not get too many pictures. I just sat there soaking in the loveliness of each of the many places we visited, swam in, rested and ate. I did not want to miss out on the present moment in my desire to preserve it for the future. After all, the moment I faced the expanse of the bay and the surrounding islands, I knew I was going to have to come back and renew my excitement and exhilaration over the wonder that is El Nido. And, the second time around, there will be time enough to record the memories for my family and friends in Facebook. For the time being I just wanted to feast my heart and my senses. If I remember right, it was low tide when we arrived at the site of Mantinloc. We landed at a little beach and half walked and half floated towards the entrance hole. I bumped my head on the rock arch of the narrow entry and scraped my leg on the sentinel of a rock guarding the secret garden. Small price for the privilege of witnessing Nature's unrivaled and original display of beauty and power. Awesome...really awesome. Nowadays when I read or hear this word "awesome" used so flippantly to describe trivial things, I shake my head and say to myself, this guy obviously has not been touched by El Nido.....yet. I have no other words for the Secret Garden. I will wait till I have honed my skills as a photographer and fulfill my promise to myself and El Nido, that I shall return.
