Colon Street, Cebu City

1.0
#2 of 12 in Neighborhoods in Philippines
Neighborhood Historic Site
Considered the Philippines' oldest road, Colon Street in downtown Cebu features an array of affordable shops and restaurants frequented by locals. Tracing its origins back to the 16th century, when Spanish conquistadores established a colony here, the street remains the heart of commercial activity in town, maintaining a busy, lively atmosphere, and unfortunately attracting an increased amount of criminal activity. Employ basic safety measurements when shopping or sightseeing in this district. Work out when and for how long to visit Colon Street and other Cebu City attractions using our handy Cebu City trip itinerary planner.

Where to stay in Cebu City

The most popular place to stay in Cebu City remains uptown, particularly around the university district near Junquera Street station. Here you'll find a good range of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses of varying quality, but with a well-established base level representing value for money. Further north, look along Dalan Osmena to find a good number of standard and luxury hotels located north and south of the roundabout. The downtown area has more closely knitted streets, with just a few guesthouses located along primarily residential roads.

  • This is a very high risk Spot for expats visiting Cebu and quite frankly shouldn't be recommended because it's dangerous and not safe for expat adults or kids and has nothing worth the risk of seeing....  more »
  • If you just want to check this area off your places to see then go ahead and go here. For me, there's nothing to see here and it quite reminds me of an old area in Manila where it is dirty and pollute...  more »
  • I've listed top things to-do and must see locations in Cebu and Colon Street is one of them. Great to observe how this city started in one long street.  more »
