Cebu Heritage Monument, Cebu City

3.9
Gaze upon the towering Cebu Heritage Monument, an imposing structure depicting events throughout the history of Cebu. Cement, bronze, steel, and iron form a tableau of sculptures showing important scenes from the city's exciting past. Multi-award-winning sculptor Eduardo Castrillo conceptualized the monument, which was unveiled in December 2000. Located in the same place as the original Plaza Parian, the monument portrays structures including the Basilica del Santo Niño and Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as scenes from the Battle of Mactan between Lapu-Lapu and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. • Best for tourists. Be here and witness history as it happen.
  • Wish there were more plaques there explaining the different sections of the monument
  • Probably the most beautiful landmark in the entire province of Cebu. It is basically Cebuano History summarized and turned into a monument. It includes bigger than life statues of Lapu-Lapu, Magellan, Pres. Sergio Osmeña, etc... The sculpture is very accesible. It is located at the very navel of barangay Parian. If you're coming from Ayala, just simply ride a 13c bound for Colon Street and tell the driver to drop you to Parian. I hate it when people keeps saying, "there's not much to do here." Of course there is not much to do cause you are going to a monument not an adventure park. SMH. Having said that, simply ready your camera and shoot all angles of the monument. Tip 1: Each sides of the monument tells a different story... Tip 2: This is not the safest place in Cebu, take care of your belongings while taking pictures Tip 3: There are three famous old house near here. Go check em out! Hehe
  • Walked by it on a Monday. Some impressive, larger than life statues there. They make a wonderful photo opportunity.
  • impressive monument, high level of artistry and craftmanship

Where to stay in Cebu City

The most popular place to stay in Cebu City remains uptown, particularly around the university district near Junquera Street station. Here you'll find a good range of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses of varying quality, but with a well-established base level representing value for money. Further north, look along Dalan Osmena to find a good number of standard and luxury hotels located north and south of the roundabout. The downtown area has more closely knitted streets, with just a few guesthouses located along primarily residential roads.
