Dam Nature / Park
Wawa Dam is a gravity dam constructed over the Marikina River in the municipality of Rodriguez in Rizal province, Philippines. The slightly arched dam is situated in the 360m high Montalban Gorge or Wawa Gorge, a water gap in the Sierra Madre Mountains, east of Manila. It was built in 1909 during the American colonial era to provide the water needs for Manila. It used to be the only source of water for Manila until Angat Dam was built and Wawa was abandoned. Due to insufficiency of water supply for Metro Manila, there was a strong clamor to reuse the dam.

  • If you are looking for a cheap nature getaway, Wawa Dam should be on your list. A few hours away from the metro, cheap cottages, and nice tour guides. 4 stars rating for me since there's not much to see here.
  • From Basic Trail to Ultra Trails if your in to Mountain Running this would be a perfect venue/location that is close to the city :)
  • Went here for a dip as it is just near my parents' place. If you're new to hiking, there are three mountains near this dam. I saw hikers taking a dip here when we were there. They have cottages that you may rent at 150 pesos. Floating cottages can be rented at 700. They have sari-sari stores and ihaw-ihaw booths but no food houses so I suggest you bring cooked food.
  • I love the rocks..as you can see the dam..nice for taking pictures..but badly needed to be maintained..
  • After our climb at Mt. Pamitinan, we proceeded to Wawa Dam to take a dip however, due to the strong rain the night before our adventure, the current was strong and our guide cautioned us about our plan. So we just opted to rent a cottage near the dam (P150) to have our lunch. (Photo credits to TDC)
