Mount Pinatubo, Botolan
(4.3/5 based on 280 reviews on the web)
Responsible for one of the largest and most catastrophic volcanic eruptions in the 20th century, Mount Pinatubo casts a formidable silhouette over the Cabusilan mountain skyline. Known worldwide for its June 1991 eruption, the once devastated, debris-covered landscape now flourishes with new life, surrounded with valleys home to the indigenous Aeta tribe. Hike along 5.5 km (3.4 mi) of relatively flat trail through dramatic scenery to see the aquamarine hues of the crater lake, a shimmering gem at the foot of the active volcano. Bring plenty of water and a light picnic to enjoy by the lake’s edge, and consider hiring a guide to accompany you on the walk.
