Hapao Rice Terraces, Banaue

4.6
#3 of 16 in Outdoors in Cordillera Region
Take a light trek through Hapao Rice Terraces, a natural sanctuary and a World Heritage Site. Learn from the locals about their farming traditions and the heritage of Ifugaos as you hike along the stone walls of the terraces, which take you down to the foot of the mountain. Surrounded by hills, walking along the trail through the rice terraces makes a truly memorable experience, with only the blowing wind creating any background noise. Hire a guide to give you a more detailed impression of the region, and also to show you the hidden hot spring. When walking, be careful not to cause damage to your surroundings. • Very nice hike through the rice paddies in the mountains, so Vertigo abstain because we walk on low stone walls close almost all the time with always a side with the vacuum. Do it with a guide to not getting lost, having good shoes, not simple sandals. Meetings with very friendly local people, for us night homestay, extra as a souvenir.

  • More scenic than Banaue Rice Terraces in my opinion. Note, I don't think Google Map's pin for this is in the right place: the Hapao Rice Terraces are closer to Ba-ang than Ohaj. I should know because I walked most of it from Banaue and the extra distance wasn't appreciated!
  • Great place where villagers still maintain all rice terraces...
