Hapao Rice Terraces, Banaue

4.8
#2 of 19 in Outdoors in Cordillera Region
Take a light trek through Hapao Rice Terraces, a natural sanctuary and a World Heritage Site. Learn from the locals about their farming traditions and the heritage of Ifugaos as you hike along the stone walls of the terraces, which take you down to the foot of the mountain. Surrounded by hills, walking along the trail through the rice terraces makes a truly memorable experience, with only the blowing wind creating any background noise. Hire a guide to give you a more detailed impression of the region, and also to show you the hidden hot spring. When walking, be careful not to cause damage to your surroundings. We made this trip Friday before our departure by bus from Banaue. It takes 45-50 minutes to get there by tricycle (far back) and 1 hour walk to get quietly to the hot spring and the river. We went there in July, rice began therefore to be yellow. It was really beautiful, rice fields seem to be extended and more wild. Moreover, our guide Jimmy to really was top! (He told us a lot about the rice fields, wildlife, flora and the mode of operation of the inhabitants) it was very pleasant, smiling and had a sense of humor. We had this guide because we slept "Banaue Homestay" and the owner, Beatriz s is responsible for the Organization of this little trek which was perfect.
