Sabang Beach, Baler

4.2
#1 of 64 in Beaches in Luzon
Sabang Beach attracts surfers and those wanting to learn how to surf with its strong and frequent waves. As the story goes, the film crew of Coppola’s legendary movie “Apocalypse Now” left some surfboards behind when they packed to return home, which encouraged the locals to have a go and led to Sabang becoming the cradle of Philippine surfing. Hostels and hotels occupy the northern part of the sandy beach, while the southern side is reserved for cottages and campsites. Restaurants, bars, and grills line the road that leads along the beach. • The beach is not really that amazing but it's good for surfing and you can learn to surf for as low as Php. 380.00.  more »
  • The beach was just right at the back of my rented cottage in Old Parola. Generally, it was good for surfing (which I didn't do) and for swimming (which I enthusiastically did). Though, there are garba...  more »

  • the place is a surfers paradise. its also beginner friendly. a lot instructors available by the shore. food has big servings.
  • Though the sand isn't white, the sand is fine enough not to hurt your feet. The beach is expansive and the water is shallow. The shore's slope is mild so is safe for kids.
  • The waves are beautiful - it defines the ocean. You'll surely learn how to surf in this beach. No wonder it's well known for being a surfing capital in the region. Waters are clear as well although the sand is not white.
  • This beach has gray sand and great waves for surfing!
  • Best surfing beach ever

Where to stay in Baler

Hang out along Baler's Sabang Beach, where the majority of the city' accommodation is located. Here you'll find a range of options, from budget inns, surf houses, and rentals to more luxurious resorts and hotels. Waves reaching 2.7 m (9 ft) high attract crowds of surfer tourists between September and February, making it the the city's peak season. Though it's a popular destination year-round and you should always reserve your room ahead of time, it's even more important to reserve far in advance if you're coming in this peak season.
