El Brujo, Trujillo

4.6
Uncover the secrets of the ancient Moche culture at El Brujo, one of the most important archeological sites in modern day Peru. Built sometime between the 2nd and 7th century CE, the ruined pyramid displays a range of detailed reliefs and murals depicting the Moche way of life, as well as evidence of later Lambayeque and Chimú influences. Examine the still-preserved tattoos on the body of Señora de Cao, the first governess discovered in Peru, whose remains rest at the site. Consider the importance of her discovery--it suggests that traditional cultures more than a millennium old placed some degree of importance on gender equality. • Visit the archaeological site el Brujo, goes beyond a tourist experience. It is the encounter with a different perspective of archaeology and history, in which scientific, spiritual and human aspects are intertwined allowing us to know and understand part of our origins and a worldview that returns us lessons of life valuable for our current situation. Care and respect with which it is treated each discovery, is evidence of a great team that is complemented by their different knowledge, experiences and roles. Again, thanks for such incredible opportunity!

  • The visit to the El Brujo archaeological complex is a must stop for those who come visit to Trujillo. This is, I could appreciate great vestiges of the way of life of the Moche, being its great attraction to appreciate the Lady of Cao. The tour consists of a visit to one of the three temples at the site, the Huaca Cao VIejo, the other two, Huaca Prieta and Huaca Rajada you can appreciate panoramic way since they have not been put in value. Also visit the beautiful Museum attached. In Huaca Cao Viejo different temples in which rituals took place can be seen, there are interesting and beautiful friezes showing the way of life of its inhabitants, in addition to find the tombs of rulers. The Museum is very nice, modern, with all the services. A shop where they sell very original souvenirs for your design is. This museum is dedicated to the Lady of Cao and present objects that were found in his tomb, videos and general attraction is the observation of his Mummy, shocking. After the tour at the end there is the option to take photos the Lady of Cao or moche Warrior dresses. It is a visit for lovers of culture and history, they are going to enjoy here. Something that I didn't in the Museum is that the guide makes us a travel very quickly not leaving to see objects less videos as it should be, I think that more time should be given so that the visitor can appreciate. Nearby is the village of Magdalena de Cao where you can eat well and access to craft, recommended shops, the village is very quiet and Nice. You have to wear sport clothes, comfortable and with slippers. The Witcher is 45 minutes from Huanchaco via the coastal road. The bad thing of this route is that signs that facilitate arrival, there so do not know may be lost, as it was my case, I had to go asking. The good thing that there is a good view of the sea that accompanies the tour. Via the Panamerican highway there are more signs, but a toll. Anyway, please do not hesitate to visit, it will be super!

Where to stay in Trujillo

Trujillo offers surprisingly few sleeping options for a city of its size, featuring only a few mid-range hotels suitable for the majority of visitors. If all you need is a decent bed in a quiet part of town, look for hostels catering to budget travelers. Visitors who don't need to stay in Trujillo itself can also consider the nearby beach town of Huanchaco, which offers more choices at a range of prices.
