El Brujo, Trujillo
(4.5/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Uncover the secrets of the ancient Moche culture at El Brujo, one of the most important archeological sites in modern day Peru. Built sometime between the 2nd and 7th century CE, the ruined pyramid displays a range of detailed reliefs and murals depicting the Moche way of life, as well as evidence of later Lambayeque and Chimú influences. Examine the still-preserved tattoos on the body of Señora de Cao, the first governess discovered in Peru, whose remains rest at the site. Consider the importance of her discovery--it suggests that traditional cultures more than a millennium old placed some degree of importance on gender equality. • This was our last tour in a 16 day tour through Peru. The story behind the "Senora de Cao" is intriguing, but the drive to get here is long and rough. The details of El Brujo look much like the other ...  more »
  • The site is part of the unavoidable if we want to try to understand these pre-inca civilizations. There are splendid frescoes, 1500 years old. Do not miss the Museum, very didactic. The discovery of the mummy of the Lady is still staggering. Really a pity that photos are forbidden, even without flasch... no shop to get information, or any card.

  • As well as the archaeological remains of this huaka where was found the Lady of Cao are not as spectacular as the huaka of the Moon, the Museum with the remains of the burial of the Lady of Cao and a history of the peoples who inhabited the area is very educational
