El Brujo, Trujillo

4.5
#3 of 20 in Historic Sites in Trujillo
Ruin Tourist Spot
Uncover the secrets of the ancient Moche culture at El Brujo, one of the most important archeological sites in modern day Peru. Built sometime between the 2nd and 7th century CE, the ruined pyramid displays a range of detailed reliefs and murals depicting the Moche way of life, as well as evidence of later Lambayeque and Chimú influences. Examine the still-preserved tattoos on the body of Señora de Cao, the first governess discovered in Peru, whose remains rest at the site. Consider the importance of her discovery--it suggests that traditional cultures more than a millennium old placed some degree of importance on gender equality. • Trujillo, headquarters of the pre-Colombian cultures Mochica, Chimú, characterized by hold between their archaeological remains the world's largest mud Citadel, known as: Chan Chan. This Citadel is studied the life of the ancient Peruvians who had by gentle men dedicated to fishing and goldsmithing. However towards the North of Trujillo, on the seafront, in Magdalena de Cao, the Wiese Foundation begins its excavations in the so-called place of El Brujo, named for the "tables" of healing that these healers (called wizards) in that area. There they would find a lady who would change history... The Witcher is an archaeological complex which has three temples, but the main is that gives its name to the complex since it was discovered the tomb of an important Mochica who called the Lady of Cao. His tomb that is not majestic and valuable for gold, as it is that of the Lord of Sipan, changed us all the knowledge of the Moche, 1) officers were not only men, 2) weren't monochrome, indeed are friezes of colors, 3) they knew mathematics and geometry, the distance between the friezes measured exactly equal between the two ((, the height and the length of each frieze, 4) they were bloodthirsty, in fact, it was thought that only the chavines were, by the remains found shows that they were human offerings, 5) also knew very well the El Niño phenomenon (the mixture of water hot from the Ecuador and cold water from the South - then called Humboldt by its discoverer -) when even the presence of spondylus at sea (, they knew of the presence of the hot water flow since the spondylus is originally from Ecuador and 6) also dominated the technique of damming their dead without removal of organs, the Señora de Cao, according to studies, had their bodies intact. Visit this complex, personally, is extremely interesting, for the discoveries that change studied until today, more reason to feel proud to be Peruvian. If they reach Trujillo, take route by hope, not be impatient in the Chicama toll rank advances, collecting three and two lanes of cars, but to get to the boxes you can turn left to move quickly. I do not recommend the detour, the car can sandblast, preferable to pay the toll and follow the normal route (Lords tourists do not permit the diversion, if you take car and driver), the road is not excellent, but it is good. At the height of the bridge Cariaga is damaged, but lower speed and respect signs not to pre-empt this area's many traffic accidents but driving with caution there is no problem. Pass the bridge, and they arrive at the detour, take the left and they head towards El Brujo, which arrive in Chiclayo, Piura or Tumbes, it is on your right. For those who lead activate the GPS because that area of Chicama, Cartavio may be confused, but is easy once s becomes the bridge Cariaga, taking care to slow down to the oval. If people cross Chicama no problem, it's all front (right) until the notice indicating the offset. Villagers are very good people, do not hesitate to ask. The Museum is within the complex, I liked it so much, ask for dog of the Moche (beautiful) which is known as Peruvian dog, not tell them so that they see it and ask for the Chinese and blonde huaico... oh surprise. Visit the complex, among friends, as a couple if you like history, family... Course within the Museum are the jewels of the Lady of Cao and easy and is she... a tribute to the former Peruvian, you will like. Ample parking, carry water if cases, report gasoline didn't see suppliers closely. Children will love. Paid entry which includes the Guide (a tip can be) so the next holiday put heading North!

Where to stay in Trujillo

Trujillo offers surprisingly few sleeping options for a city of its size, featuring only a few mid-range hotels suitable for the majority of visitors. If all you need is a decent bed in a quiet part of town, look for hostels catering to budget travelers. Visitors who don't need to stay in Trujillo itself can also consider the nearby beach town of Huanchaco, which offers more choices at a range of prices.
