  • The island is quite primitive but beautiful. There is very little electricity and no cars. Residents raise their own food organically and fish. Life expectancy on the island is age 87!  more »
  • If you visit Lake Titicaca, I recommend much to the island. We reach Puno at 4:30 in the morning by bus from Cusco. There itself, in the station, hired an excursion to the Lake which included swift boat (best the fast because but you are going to get bored surfing) visit to floating islands, Taquile and lunch included. In addition the transfers. All for 100 soles per person. Don't pay more! In Taquile island we were about 3 hours. We ate and took a ride over there. We loved it, it's beautiful

  • Taquile is a picturesque super island in Lake Titicaca. As they say about the best quinuas you will find them there. The soup that I tried was pretty good. Well-made roads it has to give a walk. We select a tour that not takes you to the central plaza are there too many tourists, and say that the conglomerates are not my thing. So we toured one of the sides of the island. The view pufff! Super recommended. The walk to take photos with its picturesque houses and colorful flowers covered the need for photos and my daughters have taken many selfies (haha). But the quality of the fabrics here, outrage! That total beauty! Stop buying hats in lima, Arequipa, Puno, uros and expected to see these here. Carry cash that where I walked not accepted credit cards.

Where to stay in Puno

Despite the appeal of Lake Titicaca, most accommodations in Puno sit several minutes back from the water, around the city center. Hostels, budget guesthouses, and rooms in private homes make up the majority of sleeping options, with a handful of boutique hotels also available. Consider staying somewhere with easy access to local transport, as you'll likely want to head off on daytrips to the surrounding area during your Puno holiday.
