  • Where else can you see men crochet with 5 needles? And they're selected based on their ability to make their own clothes? Women display their status with pom-poms and you never have to ask a man's moo...  more »
  • Be there invites you to stay and not do nothing but contemplate the majestic Lake Titicaca. It has one of the best views of the Lake, the people are very kind. You can also find handicrafts and fabrics.

  • My lungs did not feel quite happy with the combination of thin air and some pretty steep hiking tracks. So don’t forget your astma medication back at the hotel like I did... Do take your time and smel...  more »

  • That's a good island to stay overnight with local people. They are poor but they live very happy! Simple is life! You can see beautiful stars or galaxy at the night because there is ZERO light pollution!!
  • I love the view of this place and the simple living of the natives in Taquile Island. In here, I prove to myself that marriage last forever. They were able to pass around for generations and preserved their culture. Separation or divorce is not an option for the people living here. I like the hat identification of teens, singles, married, widow and officials of the place. The place is highly elevated and going up is really a challenge for some. The spectacular view of the lake Titicaca is all worth it from above.
  • Although it's an interesting island, to get to where you will be served your lunch you will have to walk a long way uphill. Whilst this sounds ok at first, in the rarefied atmosphere of this area it can be exhausting. Not really worth the massive effort.
  • This is UNESCO Heritage site and is interesting although not a must see. The males knit and the families weave. There are no vehicles on the island. Loads are carried on the backs of residents. Please note the hills are steep and getting on and off the boats can be challenging.
  • Really good experience and beautiful nature. Better than Isla del sol in Boliva.

Where to stay in Puno

Despite the appeal of Lake Titicaca, most accommodations in Puno sit several minutes back from the water, around the city center. Hostels, budget guesthouses, and rooms in private homes make up the majority of sleeping options, with a handful of boutique hotels also available. Consider staying somewhere with easy access to local transport, as you'll likely want to head off on daytrips to the surrounding area during your Puno holiday.
