Sillustani, Puno
(4.6/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Pay tribute to the long-fallen warriors of the Colla community at Sillustani, a pre-Incan burial ground perched on the shores of Lake Umayo. A series of funerary towers, some of which are up 12 m (39 ft) high, held the remains of Colla nobles, their families, and plenty of food and possessions to keep them comfortable in the afterlife. Admire the artisanship behind these impressive towers, which have stood since the 15th century. Take a guided tour to fully appreciate the significance of the area, as you'll struggle to find signposted information nearby. • These tombs by the Incas and pre incas are impressive the setting is magical graves are at the end of a peninsula and dominate the lake water

  • The Sillustani tombs are Inca and pre-Inca and are situated on top of a hill. The altitude is about 12,00 feet so walking up to them was a bit difficult. As it was raining, not our best activity.
  • Visit very recommended, the tour are in the afternoon. The view of the chullpas and the Lake to reach the top is impressive. On the way back you can observe some llamas and try some stews in a cottage in the area, they were very kind.

  • Is a wonderful place the scenery is just beautiful it is definitely worth it
  • I was here in 2015 and caught a great sunset as the rains rolled in from the distance. Great place.
  • Look out for the snake and lizard on the tombs at the top of the hill. Make sure you walk over the back of the site for views of the two lakes.
  • The view on the top is super! And the builds are so cool
  • A must do side trip from Puno. Just wait for the views from the top!
