We went here randomly while in Puno and are happy we did. It's a very local museum, with information on Carlos Dreyer, but mostly lots of local history, dating back to centuries before the Spanish inv...  more »

the museum itself is packed with priceless artifacts as you normally say. But what struck us was the lack of attention to detail and museum education. Inca sculptures and various collections of tissues and vessels, including the nazca ceramics, are presented so patchy and shabby, perhaps a school could have done a better job of presentation, with appropriate captions and well arranged. You are in front of beautiful objects with poorly glued paper pecette or stops with a PIN, without even a shred of laminating your ticket. And what about mummies? resting in a glass case as if they were three gringos during the "siesta". But a conservation system regulates humidity and temperature exist? We believe not. If you were to travel between 10 years should find it definitely deteriorated. Even the museum education is sparse as well as lighting. In any case the exhibits are valuable, especially textiles and sculptures. The mummies are the highlight of the show, hoping that endure, along with other gold objects taken from the "chullpas" of Sillustani. At the last, to close a historicist ideal path, there is also a section dedicated to the Spanish period.
