(700+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
A prominent example of colonial Baroque architecture, Catedral de Puno serves as the seat of the region's Catholic diocese. As you approach the cathedral (c. 1757), admire its imposing exterior, boasting extensive brickwork, a grand entryway, and two relatively squat bell towers. Enter the building to see its altar, featuring numerous intricate religious figures dotting a sizable frame. Note the flag of the Vatican on display to the side--a commemoration of a visit by Pope Paul VI in 1964. • The cathedral is very nice both from outside and inside. I recommend you to go by night as the cathedral is illuminated and you can usually go inside without paying the entrance fee !  more »
  • On Saturday night it had a small party with loud music and lots of young people. I liked the restaurant behind the cathedral.  more »

  • Worth the trip..beautiful place. Very historic. Take a taxi or walk to get here. Just keep a firm grip on your wallet. My friends wallet was snatched out of his backpack while he was wearing it. Fortunately another Peruvian tapped on my shoulder, alerted me, pointed out the guy and I caught him. I'm 6'1" and he was 5' 1" so we discussed him turning it back over to which he replied that he'd found it and promptly handed it back to me. My friend, who was well ahead of me, was oblivious to the theft until I brought him his wallet back. As soon as I let loose of the thief's shirt, he bolted like a rabbit. While my friends passport and other items were in tact he did report that the little guy got away with four dollars. I'm sure he needed it...no loss...just be careful.
  • Reached here through touristic alley then I saw small Catedral. Weather was extreamly clear, I could see at a time rapidly. I felt instantly this is the cathedral where live togather with locals.
  • Come here for night pictures of the Cathedral. It is not one of the biggest Cathedrals but its one of the nicest buildings in Puno. The lighting is nice at night and the front of the Cathedral has some nice detailed work.
  • I visited at night and truly enjoyed the architecture of this place
  • This cathedral is a treat to your eyes. Around every corner you will find something else that you will enjoy. Everything is beautiful, and the tour through the building is well organized. Highlight for me was the building of Jeses eating guinea pig! A shame is that the souvenir 'shop' is not more than a little table with some things you can buy. That could have been better. Oh, and you can leave your camera home, no photos are allowed. Such a shame!
