Marasha Natural Reserve, Puerto Alegria

#4 of 19 in Wildlife in Loreto Region
At Marasha Natural Reserve, hike through Amazon forest among huge trees, while exploring the diversity of wildlife, such as multicolored parrots and capybaras. Go sport fishing for piranha, take a ride in a kayak, or do some alligator spotting. Other safe and well-organized activities include a canopy zipline, swimming and canoeing in the picture-postcard lake, and guided walks through the jungle. The reserve gets its name from a small, spiny palm that grows around the lake. Relax in clean and comfortable wooden cabins (equipped with nets that keep out mosquitoes and other insects), and listen to the sounds of the jungle. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Puerto Alegria holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Marasha Natural Reserve and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • I spent two days sleeping in the jungle and in a maloca, bathe and change clothes. Although the experience of sleeping in the jungle is beautiful and unforgettable, when we reach Marasha and saw the hotel almost begin to cry from happiness. The food is delicious, the showers are super good, the rooms and incredibly comfortable beds and the super bacanas. Really recommend this destination and it is even better if you complement it with three days of walking in the jungle and three and a half hours of boating before reaching this.

  • Great nature and pleasant staff. Good food and good accommodation. Nice walk through the nature in which the guide had you lot told about the healing power of various plants. Beautiful sunset on the Amazon and in the evening caimans spotted. There was even a small Caiman caught!

  • I went with my girlfriend to this wonderful nature reserve, in which different types of activities (fishing, kayaking, hiking, whale watching) of alligators, etc. can be made. The food is excellent, typical of the region. The people are very kind. You can make the experience different in rainy season. Remember that it is a nature reserve, why not find air conditioning, fans, or alcohol.
