Catedral de Pucallpa, Pucallpa

#4 of 9 in Things to do in Pucallpa
Church Tourist Spot
A thoroughly modern place of worship inaugurated in 2005, Catedral de Pucallpa stands out from traditional Peruvian churches with its idiosyncratic, distinctive architecture. Outside, you can't miss its striking facade--essentially one large, vaulting window. Inside, pay special attention to the intricately carved wooden statue of Jesus Christ on the altar. The wheelchair-accessible cathedral has a ramp leading up to the entrance, and air conditioning provides some respite from the heat. Where to stay in Pucallpa

After centuries spent isolated from the country's main urban areas, the highway and airport brought a wave of development to Pucallpa, including a good range of accommodations. Hotels both simple and luxurious scatter throughout the main urban area; generally larger and more popular options line the main boulevards, while simpler, smaller hotels are tucked away in the city's side streets. The densest area of places to stay lies between Av. Centenario/Saenz Pena and the Ucayali River. In this neighborhood, many of the city's grandest hotels sit alongside more humble lodgings, with a number of rooms offering good views of the river.
