Pumamarca Ruins, Ollantaytambo

(4.7/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Visit Pumamarca Ruins to see the remains of a hillside fortress that guarded the entrance to the Sacred Valley. The ruins stand on the site of one of the rare battles that the Spaniards lost to the Incas. Climb a steep slope to get to the massive terraces, which will reward you with panoramic views across the valley to a quarry where the Incas excavated stones. Take a taxi if you wish to avoid the four-hour round-trip trek. Hire a local guide to get a better understanding of the ingenuity of Inca civilization. Wear sturdy footwear and a windproof jacket. • This place was included in my private city tour, and a guide is essential, to give you an overview of this Rico Empire. It was the place where I felt a wonderful energy and desire to stay a little longer. It is always advisable to be sunscreen and take water bottle.
