Pumamarca Ruins, Ollantaytambo
(4.7/5 based on 150 reviews on the web)
Visit Pumamarca Ruins to see the remains of a hillside fortress that guarded the entrance to the Sacred Valley. The ruins stand on the site of one of the rare battles that the Spaniards lost to the Incas. Climb a steep slope to get to the massive terraces, which will reward you with panoramic views across the valley to a quarry where the Incas excavated stones. Take a taxi if you wish to avoid the four-hour round-trip trek. Hire a local guide to get a better understanding of the ingenuity of Inca civilization. Wear sturdy footwear and a windproof jacket. • Peru Inca controls, any place associated with them or that their remains. It is one of the places that were restored and are seen as they were originally. Looks great, worth a visit.
  • A steep climb, before discovering the ruins that dominate the Valley. They predate the Incas but beautifully crafted. There is a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. At the climax, the day we were there, a shaman captivated his entourage. The return walk to Ollantaytambo is certainly a bit long (for starters anyway) but gorgeous and extremely varied. In short, it's a great time away from the world and noise

  • It is a magical place, full of history and with a splendid view. You can't miss it is. Meditating on the stone circle that looks out over the mountains, it is a gift for the soul.
