Cantalloc Aqueduct, Nazca
(4.3/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Cantalloc Aqueduct, an engineering marvel built by the Nazca civilization, remains in operation even today. The mysterious Nazca people were known only for their skillfully designed artifacts and geoglyphs, which makes this attraction a key to understanding their history and heritage. Carrying water from the mountain springs to the dry desert, the spiral subterranean aqueducts formed an impressive irrigation system, most of which still functions. Observe the helix-shaped structures and the stone work that remains from ancient times, or walk down to the bottom of an aqueduct, filled with clear drinkable water. Using our world travel planner, Nazca attractions like Cantalloc Aqueduct can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • In September of this year I went with my girlfriend on a tour we did over all Peru. The place you can be reached walking (not done in one day with plenty of sunshine since the heat is very strong), with private tours to engage themselves in the city or how I did it by taxi. We stopped in the main square of the city and before trip we agree the price and long awaited us at the entrance, always agree the price before you get in a cab in Peru. When we arrived they did not find any guide for hire which was a real shame for that one not may be reported correctly on the construction and operation of the aqueduct. But, anyway, the architecture of the place can be seen with the naked eye and is really spectacular to take account in the period in which was built and which until today is in operation. Don't let go!

  • Amazing to these spiral aqueducts in such an arid location. That so many were excavated and the work involved in digging down and lining these holes is thought provoking!
  • Monumental example of Inca engineering, if you are Italian and you have no idea how a Roman aqueduct, these seem little more than holes in the sand. OK, maybe it is no exaggeration to say so, but I'm not particularly excited. Let's say for what it costs the ticket, worth going there.
