4.4
#3 of 9 in Historic Sites in Ica Region
Explore Cahuachi, an archeological site believed to be a ceremonial center of the mysterious Nazca culture. Discovered in 1922, the site contains numerous pyramids made out of adobe clay, thought to have served as platforms for various religious rituals, burials, and offerings. Roam the vast complex by yourself or on a guided tour, and view the pyramids, temples, and tombs--many of which have been robbed by gravediggers. Learn about the ancient Nazca civilization that inhabited these parts and the ceremonial site, still waiting to be completely excavated and explored. • Pyramids in the desert of Nazca keep them very well, for the most part have been rebuilt, I went by car, road is one of approximately 1 hour from Nazca and there is some signs but not the enough google maps led me to the middle of the desert and I had to enter behind the pyramids without knowing that they actually have a parking lot entrance and all. In the city offer tours at buguis. The same very good point to visit to give the idea of structured very well which was this culture.

  • Fascinating site currently (slowly) being excavated. Our guide said it was only 25% discovered, with a lot more work to do. It takes a while to get to this site, and is not accessible by public transp...  more »
  • That fantastic builders were the Nasca! Beautiful building for ceremonial purposes, located in the upper area adjacent to the river Nazca. Very well maintained. Excellent visit.

  • From the Panamericana Sur you have to travel almost 17 km of dirt road, and there are hardly any signs or placards. Then equip yourself with a map that works offline and still go to the pyramid look that there always the River on your right, you will not see, but you will see lots of green trees and vegetation that grows because it is near the river. Some views along the way are still very beautiful and photogenic. Duration of the visit to the little that you can see is about 20 minutes.

  • The place is spectacular, one of the few in which the original plaster is maintained. Unfortunately, there was no one to guide or sell a pole or anything. If you like you do what you want. As archaeological remains it's amazing but it is almost abandoned.

  • Mud-brick pyramid a religious center of the Nazca. I'm sorry that you have the opportunities to do research. Here lived the priests who held cermonies and rituals. When you're in Nazca visit anyway. There are some things which you can not play with photos. This is one such place.
