Machu Picchu Cusco Trek, Machu Picchu
(4.7/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Take in the extensive views of Machu Picchu from Machu Picchu Cusco Trek, one of the city's most important archeological sites. Dedicated to Inti, the Incan sun god, the gateway once served as a part of the fortress that overlooked the roads leading to the city. Today, its vantage point offers some of the best views of all of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountain peaks. Despite the inclining terrain, the relatively short 1.6 km (1 mi) hike over the stone-paved road from Machu Picchu to the gateway is not too difficult. The trail offers excellent views along its entire length, so even if you don't ascend the entire way, the hike remains worthwhile. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring your camera and plenty of water, and note that the path can be slippery when wet. Using our world travel planner, Machu Picchu attractions like Machu Picchu Cusco Trek can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • With the companies to take you what changed a bit is the hospitality. The stunning scenery is the same. Much effort but each rest serves to appreciate the scenery. Fundamental as well as patience (I've seen elderly people reach their due step), bring good Footwear and at least 1 stick to large descents. Be prepared of rough, very rough camps without great care to look after them. But well, the reward is great

  • As you come up from the ticket office, you hike along a trail which enters this gateway. And there it is! Wow!
  • I didn't do the Machu Picchu Cusco Trek, but did walk some of the Inca Trail and the Sun Gate is the highlight. Regardless if you walk the trail, or take a bus to Machu Picchu and follow the signs to ...  more »
