#152 of 381 in Things to do in Lima
Boasting a distinctly elegant and colonial style, Palacio Municipal de Lima draws visitors with its bright yellow color. This public building serves as the headquarters for the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima and has its origins as early as 1549. The building was constructed by a myriad of different architects over a period of many decades to house the two mayors of the viceroyalty. Look for the building's ornate arches and ornate balconies. The palace, surrounded by palm trees, sits in the middle of a large city square, where it's not uncommon to encounter live music. Palacio Municipal de Lima is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Lima Edition.

  • You can buy a combination ticket of this building along with the Cathedral. Actually too expensive for what you get 40s. This building is well maintained and you'll see that the Church had a lot of money to afford luxury. Not very particular this building.

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
