Museo MATE, Lima

#5 of 55 in Museums in Lima
Art Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
Museo MATE offers insight into the work and world of this famous fashion photographer. Now converted into a gallery, the art deco colonial style building displays the black-and-white portraits of Princess Diana that made Testino famous, next to photos of Peruvians wearing traditional costumes. See other portraits of Madonna, Kate Moss, and Giselle Bündchen, as well as the group photographs that the artist--surrounded with friends and family from his earliest childhood--remains particularly proud of. Apart from the permanent display featuring Testino's works, the museum often organizes contemporary exhibits of foreign artists. • At the very heart of Lima's "Barranco" bohemian district and not far from neighboring "Museo Pedro de Osma", you wil find "MATE - Museo Mario Testino". It is housed, since 2012, at a 19th century...  more »
  • a great experience to see all the beautiful photos of Mario Testino. Definitely a place to go. You will see all the photos of Lady Diana and other great legends.  more »
  • MATE is a must-see if you are into photography and/or fashion. The buildings, restored by Mario Testino to become a museum for his and related works, are a beautiful and peaceful location to display.....  more »
  • It is a good museum. The first floor is filled with editorials which are not very interesting. However, the gem of this museum are the Princess Diana pictures. They even have one of the dresses she wore in the photos. I did not like that the price for Peruvians was 5 soles while for foreigners it was 25.
  • Nice Exhibitions in a lovely building. The idea of giving back the brochure for recycling purposes in the end is great. But why on earth are you selling drinks in plastic cups 3 m away from the recycling box?! Please think about it and change it. Thanks a lot!
  • Beautiful photos by Mario Testino from the fashion world combined with an exhibition of colorful photos of the original clothing from Peru. Small museum, so in 30 mins you can see it all and enjoy a coffee and a cake in the outdoor cafe afterwards.
  • The museum is a very nice place. Unfortunately it is partially closed till December as i was told with 3 temp exhibits running. Still worth a visit. One star off is for the cashier on the phone for literally 10 minutes. If the lady from the shop wouldn't have come to help, I would probably leave.
  • Beautiful gallery for modern art. It is an old colonial building with interesting displays and installations. Quite surprised to find a Princess Diana exhibit! Wish there was more variety and larger collections on display. Location is slightly random in regard to other city galleries and museums.
