  • Knowing the Larco Museum is something that cannot be left aside if one is located in the city of Lima. It houses a rich and unique collection of 45,000 objects Prehispanic, pertaining to the cultures of the region. On our visit we have the accompaniment of the Guide Néstor Guevara, who led us through the history of the Peru, through the rooms of the Museum, giving us a profuse knowledge of these cultures, admirable! Many thanks to the Director and the staff that treats you as efficiently.

  • This museum is work of compilation of family Larco archaeological work, the exhibition is presented with all the modern techniques and allows you to appreciate the quality and importance of the objects that are displayed. The sample is large and of high quality, objects are very representative of the cultures to which they belonged. Illustrative notes are very clear and concise. La casona is a very important element because it gives the appropriate framework. Highly recommended.

  • Wow! The museum is gorgeous (the exposition as well as the gardens) and, according to us, a must in Lima. It will take you around the history of Peru and the different ethnies. The pieces are beautiful (especially the gold section), well restored and smartly organized. There's a lot to see, but keep some time for the erotic room which is next to the restaurant. Totally recommended!
  • A real gem of a museum. Set in what must once must have been an incredible private house, it became a museum in the 60s. Lovely garden, amazing collection and a good, albeit fairly expensive restaurant. Highly recommended. Probably the ideal way to enjoy it is to arrive around 11ish, walk around until you have had enough, go to the restaurant for lunch and finish off exploring after lunch.
  • An encyclopedic museum with antiquities showcasing the breadth and depth of the Peru's history. Well rendered displays explain the timelines of peoples, cultures, and monuments throughout the region. Very helpfully, they are contrasted with developments around the work for perspective, such as what was happening in Peru while ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations were extant.
  • really a beautiful museum with so much attentions to details. the restaurant inside was excellent as well. you almost feel like you've been transported to another era. if you only have time to visit one museum in Lima, this should be it.
  • Fascinating "pre-Incan" antiquities museum, set in beautiful have garden surroundings. Top tips, one of the few museums worldwide to allow you to view extra pieces in storage. Also delicious food and ambience in the restaurant. Don't miss the erotic display - very educational.

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
