Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo, Lima
(4.6/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web)
Browse through important crystallized minerals, ceramics, and clothing as you make your way through Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo. Named after a mining engineer who died at age 21, the museum works to inspire future generations and act as a living museum of Peruvian artistic impression. The extensive collection of minerals has afforded Peru the title of one of the most prolific countries in the world for minerals. The museum also houses Chancay ceramics, dating from 900 to 1,500 CE. Meanwhile, the museum's collection of prints, textiles, and accessories document pre-Hispanic clothing in Peru. The museum is very elegantly organized, housed in a beautiful, restored historic house. • You may wonder what has a museum devoted to minerals and crystals got to do with Andean art. But inside are 3-4 rooms which focus on Chancay art--the amazing work of one of the pre-Inca communities in...  more »
  • The collection is impressive specimens, with forms and combinations of colors provided by the different chemical elements that comprise them, converted by physical and chemical laws of nature into real works of art, impossible to be imitated by human hand. Some, by the strength of its structure, its hardness, its density and its perfect architecture, seem destined to eternity

  • It is an excellent collection of minerals from all over Peru. Also the architecture of the Museum is colonial and very nice. It has a good restaurant inside.
