Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo, Lima

(4.7/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
Browse a collection of micro minerals and crystallized pieces at Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo, which also houses Chancay ceramics and textiles dated to before 1532. Although ostensibly dedicated to the mining history of Peru, the museum's collection of clothing and ceramics make it of interest to anyone looking for a broader view of the country's history, before and after the arrival of European settlers. The museum is very elegantly organized and housed in a restored historic house. To visit Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo and other attractions in Lima, use our Lima tour planner.

  • It first that is makes when is comes is announce is and register is in the book of visits, then going to box, located in an office to the left (where also sell souvenirs or memories) the entry for adults is of s / 10, students and adults older is of s/5 and for children is of s/2. The schedule of atencio nes from Monday to Saturday from 9 to 6 pm; the Sun. and holidays the entrance is from 10 am and closes at the same time. You will find display cases full of precious minerals, in the part of to the bottom right there is a black curtain and before entering turn on the switch that is on the right of the curtain. Inside you will find more minerals in display cabinets but with ultraviolet light which elements of minerals making them PHOSPHORESCENT, music company is super high in this quarter, so it is likely that they shout, but not do so security called attention. To my surprise it is forbidden take photos with or without FLASH, can not be recorded since it is "a private museum". To my surprise, before removing I saw in the room which is right at the entrance to the Museum is used as a workshop and Conference room, would recommend Chek Museum page to know the schedules of these events that many of them are free. The bathroom is in the background on the left of ladies and gentlemen. Attached photo and map of the Museum

  • If you're in the Plaza San Martín, Lima Centre this is a place that should not miss on your visit to the city. We know that the Peru highlights with its minerals by their variety, quality and abundance. A sample of this found it in this museum Andrés del Castillo, the most special thing perhaps are crystallized minerals. I'm talking about that you can see this wonder that is pyrite, quartz, scheelite, rhodochrosite, and others. All coming from different places of Peru as Huanzala (Ancash), Yauricocha (Lima), Raura (Huánuco), etc. Detallazo 1: the Museum has a room with fluorescent minerals. What is done to enter that room is turn on two switches, pass a curtain and after soon find yourself with an unforgettable view of minerals of colors shining in the darkness (even our clothes change of tonality). Single eye can stay two minutes in this room. Upon leaving, we must comply with turn off breakers. Detallazo 2: Also exists in the Museum a room exhibiting a collection of pieces about the Chancay culture and pre-Columbian textiles room.

  • It is an excellent collection of minerals from all over Peru. Also the architecture of the Museum is colonial and very nice. It has a good restaurant inside.
