Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo, Lima

4.6
#11 of 32 in Museums in Lima
Browse a collection of micro minerals and crystallized pieces at Museo de Minerales Andres del Castillo, which also houses Chancay ceramics and textiles dated to before 1532. Although ostensibly dedicated to the mining history of Peru, the museum's collection of clothing and ceramics make it of interest to anyone looking for a broader view of the country's history, before and after the arrival of European settlers. The museum is very elegantly organized and housed in a restored historic house. • I loved meeting this museum. The Walter is your strong point, explains everything from the history of the site until about the minerals are there. Not to mention the beautiful story of the creation of this museum. At the end of the visit is worth taking a snack in the charming Café that they have.

  • Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit this interesting Museum relatively new and little-known. It is very interesting especially for people that like to combine knowledge and culture with recreation and relaxation. It can very well be done alone, in couple or family or study for students with their teachers visit. The fluorescent mineral room I think it should be a broader room but it is one of the biggest attractions. I think that a portion should be traveling exhibition and other permanent in order to generate a mobilization and a periodic visit from people who are interested in culture. With the exhibition on the Chancay culture is very good. I welcome the initiative to make this Museum in a place with a beautifully preserved architecture which unfortunately is already low in Lima by the real estate Boom and the lack of preservation of heritage architecture of the city.

  • Small pleasant museum visit, no frills but very cheap. We spend an hour or the day according to its degree of passion.

  • Unique and true to the natural beauty that lies deep in the soil of this rugged land. The rock, minerals are spectacular and displayed beautifully. The building housing the museum is a gorgeous rebuilt mansion dating back to 1606 with part of its history as the American Embassy in Lima. Peru has a significant mining history and this museum display the beauty of it in a wonderful building in a great location . Make this a stop, it wont take long.
  • Love this museum! Would recommend to anyone!
  • Impressed so much! Special thanks to the people who work at the museum. Incredibly attentive, kind and open people.
  • A very interesting Museum, with great variety of mineral samples and in addition, with several areas dedicated to archaeology. Highly recommended, especially for students.

  • My favorite Museum. Beautiful minerals. It looks like a Palace inside and out. I recommend going to the area of minerals that glow in the dark.

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
