MATE Mario Testino Museum, Lima

4.4
#4 of 32 in Museums in Lima
MATE Mario Testino Museum offers insight into the work and world of this famous fashion photographer. Now converted into a gallery, the art deco colonial style building displays the black-and-white portraits of Princess Diana that made Testino famous, next to photos of Peruvians wearing traditional costumes. See other portraits of Madonna, Kate Moss, and Giselle Bündchen, as well as the group photographs that the artist--surrounded with friends and family from his earliest childhood--remains particularly proud of. Apart from the permanent display featuring Testino's works, the museum often organizes contemporary exhibits of foreign artists. • Wonderful Museum in a colonial House with garden in the neighborhood of the ravine. We were amazed of the exhibition. Small in size, but enough to appreciate the precious photos of Mario Testino. It is one of the things that is worthwhile if you go to Lima. Recommended 100%

  • It was such an unexpected surprise to see this place (it was not in my guidebook which was published in 2016) and I loved it. A beautifully restored 19th mansion dedicated to Testino's work which was ...  more »
  • The Museum is located in a nice house and have some very interesting photos, but it's small and the size of the exposed is restricted. How to program, there are many much better museums in Lima to be visited, I don't recommend unless you don't have other options in the list.

  • A small permanent collection of photos ranging between very good and excellent with two temporary exhibit halls with thoughtfully chosen contemporary art.
  • Alta moda(peruvian style) and Diana Collection(kindness and thoughfull) are the best. So emotional.
  • Testino's photos were wonderful. The black and white photos by Graciela Iturbide were too dark, theme-wise
  • Small but fine! Excellent images and wonderfully renovated old building. Take the combi ticket with the Pedro de Osma museum next door and save 6 Soles.
  • Testino's exhibition is great, a bit of modernity after days of Inca sites and colonial buildings

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
