Huaca Pucllana, Lima

4.4
In stark contrast to the skyscrapers and modern infrastructure surrounding it, the steep stones of Huaca Pucllana boast more than 1,000 years of history. The adobe pyramid, standing in what is now the center of Peru's capital, was built by before 700 CE by the pre-Inca people known as the Lima. Constructed from seven rising platforms, the pyramid served as a power base for elite clergymen, from which they controlled the affairs of society. Gaze upon the pyramid and imagine the mystical ceremonies that were conducted in this holy place more than a thousand years ago. • Location and service are incredibly good... waiters and host do a great job, and the view and 'ambiance' at the terrace are incredible. Food could be better though... it's an average high-end taste... which is good... but will definitely not make it to the top 10 in Lima because of the taste of it's food. Again, it's good, but not outstanding
  • Certainly a step back in time -- an ancient temple area in the middle of Lima. The entrance fees was 12 sol for an adult. You must walk with a guide in a group. There are English tours if required. You must stick to a specific path. Our guide was good. Plenty of photo oops, but one only needs 3-5 to cover the feeling. Only negative is the mock priests and workers. Worth the visit if you are in the area.
  • Very interesting site to visit whilst you are in the area. Gives you an insight into the challenges and conditions that the original dwellers of lima area had to endure as well as the rituals they performed. Percy, the guide was knowledgeable and entertaining Only downside like most of this structures is that everything seems to be reconstructed, but once you assume that is almost unavoidable, you'll be fine
  • Nice place but too much dust and the sun from Lima can cause you a sunburn very bad to the skin. Take with you an umbrella before you go. It should be covered with trees or something. Also watching the people eating there in a vip restaurant that is inside does not feel that good while taking the walk. Also when there are too many children they play with the dust and throw it at you. There is too much dust or sand they have put there on porpouse. It not that necessary. I really don't think is original.
  • Very cool tour of the Huaca Pucllana pyramid. The tour is offered in both English and Spanish. It is required to enter as a part of a tour. As you wait for a tour to begin there is a small, air conditioned museum that you can look through which describes each time period of the pyramid. The tour included a walk up the pyramid as well as of animals and plants used and grown during the eras. There is a restaurant, gift shop, and bathrooms on site. Additionally, there are vending machines. There is little shade on the tour so bring sunscreen and sunglasses.
