Church and Sanctuary of Saint Rose of Lima, Lima

4.2
Saint Rosa serves as the primary patroness of Peru and of the indigenous peoples of Latin America, making Church and Sanctuary of Saint Rose of Lima an important stop to learn more of the country’s religious history. The red-and-white church is built on the spot where Saint Rosa was born and the home that she turned into a hospital for the poor. She earned sainthood by dedicating her life to helping the needy and sick--you'll see the statue of this remarkable woman standing outside. Visit this grand church to learn more about her life and legacy; enter to admire the manicured gardens and make a wish in the wishing well. Both the Church, as the convent gardens are very beautiful and well maintained. I waited 2 hours to attend a mass at the site and was a rich experience. For Catholics Peruvians, Santa Rosa is much revered. Case file, is already among my plans), will be back, for sure, at that location. Noting, that would indicate not for small children and non-Catholics.

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
