Caral, Lima

4.4
The site of an ancient civilization similar to Machu Picchu, Caral has a similar historic significance without the huge tourist crowds. The oldest city on the continent, this ancient settlement was inhabited between approximately 2600 BC and 2000 BCE by over 3,000 inhabitants. Explore the more than 60 hectares (148 acres) of space, once home to the Norte Chico civilization, and learn about their society. A couple of hours from the big city, this makes a great day trip from Lima. If you’re driving yourself, be aware that there are tolls along the way, so be prepared with change. Alternatively, you can go with an organized tour group, which generally includes a guide to teach you more about the history and significance of the site. CARAL is practically a hidden jewel of Peru tourism, I went in August 2015 and is a site a few hours of Lima and the way is very simple, site is in a desert and pair surprise of few visitors, is the oldest city in America, has nearly 5,000 years old, albergo a previous to the Inca culture, and can easily be culture originating e people it of mesoamerica , is the best site that guides him are the same people who excavated the ruins so they have a great knowledge of the place, and while much of the structures are damaged by the passage of time and it has not completed its restoration, walking by the place is magical because you feel the energy of 5,000 years of history and see what could be accomplished with almost zero technical resources as old time makes that one marvel of the human capacity to do great things with what surrounds it.

These ruins should be more promoted. Pre-Inca are of great archaeological importance. He is difficult to reach them, given that he must travel several kilometers by dirt roads.

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
