Caral, Lima

(4.4/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
The site of an ancient civilization similar to Machu Picchu, Caral has a similar historic significance without the huge tourist crowds. The oldest city on the continent, this ancient settlement was inhabited between approximately 2600 BC and 2000 BCE by over 3,000 inhabitants. Explore the more than 60 hectares (148 acres) of space, once home to the Norte Chico civilization, and learn about their society. A couple of hours from the big city, this makes a great day trip from Lima. If you’re driving yourself, be aware that there are tolls along the way, so be prepared with change. Alternatively, you can go with an organized tour group, which generally includes a guide to teach you more about the history and significance of the site. Put Caral at the forefront of your travel plans using our Lima vacation builder.

  • Despite being a simple and fast ride, worth knowing. The tour guide has nothing more, perhaps it would be more interesting to search about place and give a quick, the place is small and it gets annoying having to wait for the whole class to arrive at an explanation.

  • Not will amaze you when visiting Lima at the end of a long tour to discover how archaeological finds can be found also in Lima downtown, walking distance from Central Park of Miraflores in testimony of the extension throughout the great culture precolumbiana! Overall having visited this site at the end of the tour and especially after Macchu Picchu nothing particularly interesting if not from the point of view of a culture eradicated.

  • This place despite being outside Lima is one of the most dazzling history and contrast to the nation's capital. It is worth visiting this place passing by the picturesque northern villages.
