Caral, Lima

4.4
The site of an ancient civilization similar to Machu Picchu, Caral has a similar historic significance without the huge tourist crowds. The oldest city on the continent, this ancient settlement was inhabited between approximately 2600 BC and 2000 BCE by over 3,000 inhabitants. Explore the more than 60 hectares (148 acres) of space, once home to the Norte Chico civilization, and learn about their society. A couple of hours from the big city, this makes a great day trip from Lima. If you’re driving yourself, be aware that there are tolls along the way, so be prepared with change. Alternatively, you can go with an organized tour group, which generally includes a guide to teach you more about the history and significance of the site. • (1) how to get? Take buses going to Canyon, in the plaza North terminal or fiori (here come with the Metropolitan Tomas valley station), terminal of Zbuss at Acho, tourism Canyon, there are other informal points where you can climb in the Megaplaza road, market Unicachi Pro Entrance window. The passage costs between 12 and 15 Suns Suns and every twenty minutes out of North square, also there are collective in the Pan-American North with Av. los Alisos passage is among 20 to 25 in colectivo.el in bus journey time of about 4 hours. They come down in the town of Supe and market there are cars (5 soles) that reach the people of Caral 23 Km (40 min), walk 3 Km (1 hour walking normal pace) until you reach the entrance and ticket office. If you are in particular car is reaching the Supe River and advance 1400 meters there are ovals, turn right, one advances 19 km and meets a detour in the coordinates E223059, N8795464 the one on the right goes to the ruins of Caral, which follows this direction to the village d and Caral. 2) cost of admission and tour the cost of entry is 11 Suns adult, 1 children Sun less than 5 years, 1 adult older than 65, 4 Suns University Sun, 1 school Sun documentation. The cost of the guidance is 20 soles (a person to 20 persons), if you go very early can access a guide to one only, if they are late only can access the group guidance, because sometimes the guides are not supplied. There are three tours one of these has a way for wheelchairs. 3) food weekends there is food of the ladies who live in Caral, up to 2 p.m. approximately is one food (I got 2: 30 and the ladies were by removing, but still had people eating), in the town of Caral Supe you can also eat. (4) how do I get back? If you go early, there are people going in particular car and to return to Lima you can give them 20 soles or whatever you agree, there are some groups you can also tomar(no siempre hay estos colectivos, los guias los llaman y solo vienen si hay un minimo de 5 personas) the cost It is 10 Suns ruins Supe or Barranca and hence in the Pan-American takes a bus to Lima 12 Suns approximately. (5) other also there are collectives of Barranca to Caral, when I went there was a Spanish and an Italian who had arrived independently and direct from the airport, wanted to know the civilization more ancient of America; you like the Spanish, but it was a little disappointed thought it would find ruins of a civilization more developed, but to be the civilization more ancient development in ceramics, construction was not as developed as it was Machu Picchu in inca civilization much more recent. You can not climb to the ruins to take pictures (son of clay and stone), there are small viewpoints to take photos.

  • We are one of the first cities in the world, has great potential to be a centre of tourism in America, but this very left side, need greater investment and I am sure to improve, for the time being very good to go and take advantage of that is not very full.

  • Wonderful back in time and imagine living in those years... is very well maintained, only that is a bit far from Lima... so that must be patient.

Where to stay in Lima

One of Peru's most expensive destinations, Lima offers accommodations that range from modern hotel high-rises to family-run guesthouses. Most visitors stay in Barranco, Miraflores, or San Isidro, three of the city's safest and prettiest neighborhoods, which offer a good selection of budget lodgings. For something truly authentic, look for hotels located in restored mansions, many of which offer pleasant rooms overlooking manicured enclosed gardens, ideal for enjoying romantic meals or hosting small private parties.
