Tapiche Reserve, Iquitos

4.9
#5 of 16 in Wildlife in Iquitos
Wildlife Area Nature / Park
For a truly secluded Amazonian experience, look no further than Tapiche Reserve, a privately owned and operated conservation area accessible only by waterway. Wildlife here includes endangered species such as jaguars, giant armadillo, harpy eagles, and the Brazilian tapir, so you'll spot all kinds of creatures along the trail through lush, thick jungle. The 1,540 hectare (3,805 acre) reserve exists on a strictly no-hunting and conservation-led principle; ticket sales go toward the efforts at preserving this Amazonian paradise. Due to its distance from the nearest town, the attraction doesn't draw crowds--making it the perfect place if you're seeking something remote. Plan to visit Tapiche Reserve during your Iquitos vacation using our convenient Iquitos family vacation planner.

  • 5 days away from civilization, in the middle of the deepest Amazon we have enjoy fantastic, unspoilt nature. Katoo has this with infinite patience on hiking tours or boat trips closer brought his world us,... traced various monkey and bird species, insects, caimans and dolphins, without interfering in the natural. Environment and conservation is here - in an area where this often happens, what in Iquitos on deaf ears and is too clear on the way to the reserve - always at the Center. Katoo and his team provide incredible in the reserve. We were catered for all around and every cent is well placed. The tours and the revenue, local workers can be employed who otherwise earn their money by hunting or deforestation of the rain forest. I can be anyone who wants to broaden his horizons and want to experience an incredible piece of nature, the visit to the heart.

Where to stay in Iquitos

The scenic, remote city of Iquitos has long been established as a route into the Amazon, so you'll find a good range of accommodations here. Most of the luxury options lie between Calle Samanez Ocampo and the river, with established colonial-era buildings housing some of the most characterful lodgings. Around the town's primarily residential areas, find simple guesthouses on modest-looking side streets, along with rental apartments ideal for longer stays. Scenic lodges and campgrounds on the edge of town give you the feeling of isolation and wilderness that so many come to the Amazon to find.
