Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm, Iquitos

4.4
Stop by Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm to admire a range of Amazonian animals and see the impressive and important conservation and research work done by a non-profit organization. The dazzling array of winged beasts in the butterfly house is complemented by the amount of information given to visitors here; you'll learn about each stage of a butterfly's life through an introductory talk and displays. The center has grown beyond butterflies in recent years, with greater emphasis on providing a sanctuary for orphaned, abused, and neglecting animals from across the Amazon. • Amazing animals, great tour guides, and you support important work. All the animals are rescued and so just going really helps to counteract the animal trade.  more »
  • The Austrian owner does its job with heart and soul. With great love for the animals she cares for sacrificially abused animals from all over Peru. In addition to various monkey, nature designed area accommodates a Jaguar, a tapir, ocelots, sloths, parrots and a few others. The Centre is of course the butterfly rearing of all developmental stages of butterflies is vividly describes. Where to stay in Iquitos

The scenic, remote city of Iquitos has long been established as a route into the Amazon, so you'll find a good range of accommodations here. Most of the luxury options lie between Calle Samanez Ocampo and the river, with established colonial-era buildings housing some of the most characterful lodgings. Around the town's primarily residential areas, find simple guesthouses on modest-looking side streets, along with rental apartments ideal for longer stays. Scenic lodges and campgrounds on the edge of town give you the feeling of isolation and wilderness that so many come to the Amazon to find.
