Head to Catedral de Iquitos, the main cathedral of Iquitos and an impressive colonial structure. Architect P. Paulino Diaz built the neo gothic building in the year 1924. Declared a national monument of cultural heritage in 1996, the cathedral remains emblematic of the city. The cathedral's publicly accessible grounds house a crypt where the remains of the city's first bishops reside, and the peaceful interior provides shady respite on bustling, hot days.
