Casa de Fierro, Iquitos

2.5
Likely the first prefabricated house in the Americas, Casa de Fierro is believed to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel, though there's no real proof this is true. Bought in Paris by a 19th-century rubber baron, the structure remains an outstanding example of  civil architecture. Don't miss a stop on the second floor, home to a small restaurant. Eiffel's house is located just off the main square and is worth stopping by to see for a few minutes, perhaps with an ice cream in hand.  more »

It is in the plaza de armas, but they are rather neglected. You can not enter. They could fix it a little.

The Casa de Fierro (House Eiffel), is an iron house located in the Centre of Iquitos. Emerged in 1890 during the rush of the rubber, became one of the cultural icons of Iquitos. It is located between Prospero and Putumayo. The Fierro House is one of the best, as well as best-preserved samples of civil architecture in the Peru.

Where to stay in Iquitos

The scenic, remote city of Iquitos has long been established as a route into the Amazon, so you'll find a good range of accommodations here. Most of the luxury options lie between Calle Samanez Ocampo and the river, with established colonial-era buildings housing some of the most characterful lodgings. Around the town's primarily residential areas, find simple guesthouses on modest-looking side streets, along with rental apartments ideal for longer stays. Scenic lodges and campgrounds on the edge of town give you the feeling of isolation and wilderness that so many come to the Amazon to find.
