  • I would actually recommend this company even though we didn't get what we payed for and our experience in some ways was bad. So, we actually wrote a list on all the things wrong with our trip, presented it to the agency and demanded 25% of what we payed back to us. They gave us 12,5%, which is good according to me. Why? A few reasons were: * We were supposed to go 2 persons with a guide, assistant and driver but was paired up with two others and didn't get the assistant. * The ones we were paired up with were fishing-lovers and we are vegans. We were promised not to fish. * The guide didn't understand English very well, which the company promised. * The guide was really sexist and lied (or joked, hard to tell at times) a lot. + Quite much more That aside. It was obvious that the guide was very used to the jungle. He didn't communicate with us enough, though, even if we requested it several times. What we realized when we talked to the company was that they didn't even know about most our problems before we told them. It was all on the guide and those who arranged it in the reserve. What to learn from this review: Ask who the guide is. If his name is Edwin: refuse to have him. They actually promised not to hire him anymore.
  • I had an excellent 3 days camping in the Pacaya Samaria reserve with Golden Snake. Our guide, Lander, was second to none on his knowledge, English, enthusiasm. While Jim in the office was really helpful organising my onward travel when I was in the jungle commissions free. I think they are very competitive on price also. Note though that trips to the reserve require a certain degree of roughing it but you are in the middle of the Amazon after all.
  • Ruth is very nice and she likes to give all the information we need

  • I liked: 1-the best of Golden Snake is one of the few agencies that allow you to enter the reserve of Pacaia Samiria and the price is not excessive. 2-Inside the reserve there are no lodges and they offer the possibility to sleep in tent or sleep in the house of the people who live in one of the communities within the reserve. We choose to live in the houses of the community. This allows you to know other life forms. For me it was very gratifying to interact with the people of the community. But bear in mind that there are no comforts of a Lodge (no bathroom, sleep in a furton on the floor, but with mosquito net, no privacy) 3-Our guide, Daniel, is a good guide, close, friendly and transmits a lot of security. Although I would have liked to explain more about the place. 4-Romer, the guide's assistant, was a very kind and highly trained gentleman. 5-The group was reduced and this allows you close contact with the family of the House, the Guide, the assistant, etc... I didn't like it: 1-the worst thing about the trip, it's definitely been the food. Before hiring the tour, I asked if I could have a vegetarian option. They said yes, that there was no problem, but it wasn't true. My food was the same as the rest of the people who ate meat, but they served me the dish without the meat. This is not vegetarian food for me. 2-The food was very repetitive, three days eating rice with chicken or rice with pork, during the 3 days for both lunch and dinner. I think for the money we paid, they could have looked something else. At least in terms of variety.

  • At the lodge there is nothing going on. There are hammocks. The food is good. There is a large dining room and a small bar. The guide organizes walks to the nearest town. The way to reach the lodge is interesting, must pass a swamp on a raft who gets the water, then by an irregular bridge.
