Pastoruri Glacier, Huascaran National Park
(4.5/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Get acquainted with Peru's snowy peaks at Pastoruri Glacier. Don't miss the chance to get an up close experience with a glacier here, as it is the only one accessible by road in the entire world. The glacier has lost over 15% of its ice mass over the past 35 years, while the planet in that time has seen ten of its hottest years on record. Despite the chilly temperature, visitors are advised to take plenty of water along with them due to the glacier being 5,250 m (17,200 ft) above sea level. • It is easy to get to Pastoruri, this road Huaraz, is well signposted, entering the road is trail, circulate several cars is a not-so-wide road but in regular State, mixed with hills, small lakes, animals nature as the Huayatas (which I love), you also cross with remains of a cave painting... You must cross a control booth where they charge 20 Suns per adult, we arrived about 3 pm and it was still open... When you get you find parking, the place is spacious, boast service toilet and small shops where you can buy water or food and some memories... reach their own snow can do it by the road or horses It is uphill a little tired but for 20 to 30 minutes, light horse is less... I think they charge 20 soles also, da pena see the ice is disappearing, but what remains is spectacular... to my is I fell the iphone to a small lagoon by wanting to take me a photo and know that... not nothing happened! Uff happily... When the Sun is spectacular ah that if it's pretty cold!

  • The Agency sold us the tour as a great wonder with divine photos (included carbonated waters that were huge and all were in fact, a gap that already almost cover and Brown, 7 colors lagoon also showed it immense and nothing it did) Finally, sold us the full tour based on ancient and unreal pictures when only it was worth in my opinion go straight to the glacier Although not is you can get closer as one would like, which is understandable in respect to the prolongation of the same, offering a nice view. My advice: do not take the full tour for more soles, only that goes straight to the glacier by 35.

  • This was the first tour that we carry out in the region and really is one of the most recommended for acclimatization. The altitude is great, 5000 meters, we however the passage to be traversed on foot is short and shoes, which does not exclude the difficulty. On the way there are a few stops to see the colorful, giant plants lagoon of puya name (if not mistaken) and other attractions, until you get to the beginning of the way up the ice. He's not the biggest I've ever seen and not the prettiest, but without doubt it's beautiful, big and the possibility to get close is cool, especially for those who've never been near a glacier. But this tour is with the days contacts, because the ice is melting and too fast, so that there is no retrogression of the process and in a few years there will be no more. A shame!
