Another visit I obliged! I had the opportunity to work a little more than one year in this area, and whenever I'm am amazed at the geology of the place. It is here you can also see the hydroelectric power. I made the visit with my children and I loved them! It is advisable to do so in their own car.

Duck canyon is an interesting drive thanks to the awesome canyon itself as well as the tunnels cut through sheer rock. You can buy a full day tour from Huaraz or, as we did, get to Caraz and hire a ta...  more »

A sunny morning may, then visit the Tumshukaico archaeological site on the outskirts of Caraz, start with our rental car to explore the Cañón del Pato - at the north end of the corridor of Huaylas-, on route 3N. The idea was to go 35 tunnels that originally were intended to unite by the city of Chimbote on the Pacific Railroad, with the broker, but who never prospered. Of that project were these tunnels just one hand - some of few meters of length and others of more than 200 meters-, and for years the tracing of the route. Precisely that only one hand and indicating some few posters "playing horn" before joining, is what generates adrenaline and is part of the dangerous tour. Not only circulate harmless bike - barely visible within the tunnels, but that there are trucks and local cars at reckless speeds in and out of those. The tour had as destination the village of Huallanca - distant to 40 km-, where they end up the tunnels and the Santa River is no longer so boxed by the mountain ranges black and white. They say tourist guides that there are sectors where the vertical walls of both mountain ranges just are separated 5 meters by more than 500 metres in length and 2,000 meters deep. Precisely this feature and the slopes of the River allowed Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo, to design the plans for the construction of the hydroelectric power of the Cañon del Pato. The return trip from Huallanca to transpose the last tunnel, generated more adrenaline than on the way of ida by the higher traffic. The danger is latent in a narrow trace, without guardrails and miles of cliffs. But traps and is a tour not to be missed...!
