Really nice ~1.5 walk from the center of Huaraz, and just outside of the ruins there's a beautiful mirador on a hill. Fascinating that such old structures are just outside of the city! If you've got a...  more »

The Cañón del Pato back and being just half a day, after a frugal lunch, we went to the other end of the alley of Huaylas, to Huaraz. The route is amusing, is in good condition and along almost 60 km is van Threading more prominent settlements in the area: Yungay, Carhuaz, mark and Anta. Before entering Huaraz on the left, at the height of the beautiful Sierra estate, is a path in regular State to the District of pariah - are just 8 kilometres-, where the archaeological sites of Wilcahuaín e Ichic Wilcahuaín. Chullpas complex (dead houses, mausoleums), is just separated one from another for 800 meters, so it is inferred that until its decline in its origins, the site occupied a unique and wide area. Architecture and part of the remains of pottery found in excavations confirm that the last stage of the site was occupying Wari. But many other remains also speak of the possibility of origin of the site is back in a few centuries before Christ, in the beginning of the intermediate early, being the Recuay Culture which populate the site in its early days. It was followed by in effect during the Middle horizon, probably until the 9th century, when breaks in the area the Wari culture. The style of buildings, one more important than the rest but all with the same constructive pattern, draws attention to the handling of large stone blocks - separated by small slate plates called pachillas – which together with the mortar which links the whole, would make "cushion" against the earthquakes. In fact on the whole only we saw a single large stone just cracked by this cause. He also caught our attention that this constructive system nothing resembles the Wari of Pikillaqta, Cuzco near ciudadela. On the other hand, this system is very similar to that it saw days later in the great Temple of Chavin de Huantar, dated approximately in 1500 B.c. Much older in time to the Wari culture and even the Recuay. Always in these cases, there are more questions than answers. The visit performed here from the hand of a young student of surveying, settler of the area, which, on his days off, guides, is more than qualified for the visitor enjoy and know the place. Tour tickets and inner chambers of the three levels of the largest of the chullpas - almost in the shadows-, is an impressive experience. identical to the of the Chavin Temple. With the Guide and his intelligent opinions, also toured the simple but well planted site, with few but beautiful parts Museum. Both sites are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8-16; 30 hours, admission costs 5 Soles. The visit was exciting!
