Huanchaco Beach, Huanchaco

(3.1/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
With its long, low waves and excellent surfing conditions, Huanchaco Beach attracts mostly surfers and beginners learning to surf. The beach boasts many surf schools, cafes, and beach vendors selling fast food and souvenirs. Stalls offering fishing tackle line a long wooden pier protruding into the sea. All over the sand you'll notice typical Andean "totora horses"--boats made of reed--standing upright. Streets and parks nearby have plenty of restaurants serving up excellent seafood. Rent some deck chairs and umbrellas (the sun is fierce) and watch the surfers. With constant waves and chilly water, the beach does not lend itself much to swimming, but if you still want to take a dip, be careful not to step on a sea urchin. • A long sprawling beach filled with locals and tourists alike. Great to walk, enjoy a smoke, or a beer!  more »
  • The beach at the height of the spring is very congested street vendors, dirty both on the beach and on the sidewalk, with chaos of cars and parking lots, the dirty plazuela, garbage bags, dreadful presentation that is exposed to tourists, City Hall should assign staff to reevaluate the place and order both the traffic, parking lots as the appropriate location of the sellers

  • I liked the beach, very good place to learn to surf and I've seen many places where they taught but recommend that they carry Aquashoes since this beach has stones; also have spending them a caballito de totora which was great I charm super safe with lifeguard, but are for elderly people or children since by the size of the single Reed seahorse can be one person per trip, it was a different experience which I recommend.
