Sacsayhuaman, Cusco

(4.7/5 based on 9,000+ reviews on the web)
Marvel at the walls of Sacsayhuaman, an ancient fortified complex constructed of huge, megalithic stones. Although the wildly varying shapes and sizes of boulders used for the dry stone walls may give the impression of haphazard construction, each piece was carefully cut to fit tightly with the adjacent stones without the use of mortar. The Killke culture built the first sections of the wall around 1100 CE, and the Inca later expanded it further in the 13th century. Within the walls, explore the ruins of many buildings, storage rooms, a large plaza, and various sites of ceremonial or religious purpose. The complex sits at an altitude of 3,701 m (12,142 ft) and offers many commanding views of the surrounding mountains. The easiest way to visit is to arrange a tour from nearby Cusco. • If you think that the Incas had "somehow" brought the stones here, cut it with tools of copper in the form of, adapted and used as a fortification, so how the guides like to tell one, which should start to doubt his own mind and eyes. I advise the facility in the afternoon to visit. Since the flow of tourists is slightly less first and you can see on the basis of the shadows cast on the surfaces of the stones, how the stones were edited. If then the guide will tell you the Incas with the help of water and sand would get that, then you should change the Guide. If you previously not very interested in the development of the plant, then since her that at the latest after that! The absolute highlight for all those who were already at the pyramids in Giza and find again the same Builder. one of the most interesting tourist destinations on the planet.

  • The site is very interesting. The way the stones were carved and fitted together was fascinating. Easy walking.  more »
