Qorikancha, Cusco

Must see · Religious Site · Historic Site
Once dazzling with gold-coated walls and solid gold statues, Qorikancha now seems like a shell of its former self. Despite this, the temple--dedicated to the Inca sun god Inti--retains an air of mystique, as its blend of Inca and Spanish architecture symbolizes a clash of two empires. Legend has it the temple was stripped of most of its gold when the Spanish ransomed an Inca leader Atahualpa, forcing their enemies to surrender much of their wealth. You can admire the hardy architecture of the Inca temple, and imagine the ornate decorations that once graced it. • The Spaniards built over this temple. Within the years and earthquakes, everything 0fell down, but that temple is still there.  more »

  • Lovely place in the heart of Cusco. It’s located inside of the hotel. The yard is full of flowers,an amazing terrace that seems to be cozy if it’s not raining. We got our main courses rather fast and they were tasty??Fair price and good service.
  • The entrance fee is s/15 and it really worth a visit. It has a very beautiful plaza inside and you can take pictures of the outside spaces. Like most of the religious sites in Cusco, photography and films are forbidden for most of the internal spaces, no matter with or without flash. S/1 for audio guide on cellphones.
  • This was the holy place where the Incas had all their gold decorating the temple. The conquistadors took it all and melted it down. There is a museum here with some explanatory information but with a professional guide you will get a nuanced understanding.
  • Beautiful place! Probably one of the best points in Cusco, I strongly recommend it. The ticket cost 15 PEN approx and they offer a audio guide too. This audio guide it’s an app so go with headphones if you want to use it. The tour takes 45 minutes approx. Great and awesome place!
  • Beautiful place and worth a visit. For some reason they charge you 1 sol for the audio guide, but then just tell you to download the Museo Santo Domingo app from the App Store. The amount of information about the place is poor but the app is free! I recommend you read about it before you go.
