Pre-Columbian Art Museum, Cusco

(4.2/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
See a collection of art and artifacts at Pre-Columbian Art Museum, a heritage center that sensitively and sympathetically details the artistic progress and cultural development of natives before the colonial era. Built on the site an Incan ceremonial court, the museum's main building was designed as a colonial mansion in 1580. A historic monument of Cusco reopened as a museum in 2003, the building  now displays a collection of artworks and objects from the pre-Columbian times. Take a tour of the museum to see the finely sculpted jewelry, ornate pots, and ceremonial masks made by native cultures between 1250 BCE and 1532 CE. • There's a lot to see in Cuzco and the surrounding area, but if you can only visit one museum, this is the one (and much more interesting than the Inca Museum). There are several rooms on two floors - ...  more »
  • As the Inca Museum, it is a forced stop. It is small, fast, and shows all the previous looting Spanish culture.

  • The place is in the plazoleta Nazarenas, which is very nice and classic. The museum itself, is must-see for those who appreciate art and history. Parts are very well preserved and exposed, in addition the texts that accompany them are more an artistic analysis than just a historical account, which gives it a special plus. Within the Museum is also the coffee MAP, which is expensive but very nice and elegant. It's worth fully take time to visit this place.
