Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Qorikancha, the most revered temple of the Incan Empire, comes to life at Museo de sitio del Qoricancha. Consisting of five rooms, the museum displays artifacts from the excavation of the Incan temple. Originally the temple was lavishly decorated, with the inner walls lined with gold and golden statues decorating the gardens. Most of the gold was given to the Spanish as a ransom for Atahualpa, which left artifacts of pottery, textiles, and mummies to be found during the excavation. These items are now displayed in the museum not far from the actual site where they were unearthed. Small museum which can be visited only with the "Boleto Turistico". One of the most interesting part is the exhibition of skulls with operation marks from the inka time. It is described how the inkas performed skull operations on their people who survived the treatment. Three quite good preserved inka mummies are also part of the exhibition.
