Museo de sitio del Qoricancha, Cusco

#13 of 25 in Museums in Cusco
Qorikancha, the most revered temple of the Incan Empire, comes to life at Museo de sitio del Qoricancha. Consisting of five rooms, the museum displays artifacts from the excavation of the Incan temple. Originally the temple was lavishly decorated, with the inner walls lined with gold and golden statues decorating the gardens. Most of the gold was given to the Spanish as a ransom for Atahualpa, which left artifacts of pottery, textiles, and mummies to be found during the excavation. These items are now displayed in the museum not far from the actual site where they were unearthed. • This museum was described as the mummie museum to us, and they do have a couple Inca mummies. Its a small museum, and if you do not have a lot of time I would recommend going to the Museum of regional...  more »
  • It has very interesting things, but is not organized well, at first glance do not draw much attention, and you have to haceer an effort to make it

  • The museum is small and has some English translations. The day we went there seem to be an issue with the plumbing. No wows or compelling reasons to make a dedicated trip. Sad to say.  more »

  • Some interesting pieces but poorly presented - bit like a collection of school assignments! Not clean and smelled like public toilets mostly. Only went as we had the multi-site ticket but not really worth the hassle. Don't miss the actual Qorikancha site though! A better detour would be to the textile centre 50m down Av de Sol which as an excellent little museum!
  • Little museum with lot of history. It has basics of everything inka; jewelry, pottery, clothing, foods, architecture, mummies, surgeries and religion. We used our "general ticket" that allows to visit 14 different locations for 130 soles and those 130 soles were best spent soles.
  • Hardly worth it. It is a small museum and not very educational. There are English translations of most exhibits. What’s lacking is a general introduction to the site and what it was used for. Wouldn’t bother come by here, unless the three mummies are a must-see for you (in truth they are not that fascinating).
  • Entrance fee is 70 soled, no student reduction. And the museum is old and dusty. Avoid.
  • Excessive trouble getting ticket, and apparently, because I don't have an isic card, I don't count as a student. This has never happened anywhere else in international travel and really sours the whole visit.
