Museo De La Coca, Cusco

#9 of 25 in Museums in Cusco
Visit the small Museo De La Coca to learn about the role coca plays in Peruvian culture. Spread across two floors, the exhibits showcase the use of coca leaves in Peru and the history of the plant. View the information, available in English and Spanish, about the plant's medicinal and culinary uses, as well as its role in the production of cocaine. If you don't wish to chew on the plant itself, stop by the small gift shop, where you can purchase an array of coca-laced delicacies, such as chocolates, liqueurs, and beers. • The place is small. I think the visit is worth only if you are visiting the region where the Museum is located and go through your door, which is not difficult, since it lies in one of the main squares of the neighborhood of San Blas. Have a Coke products store interesting, but wouldn't recommend the Museum as a must-see, because the city has other interesting points.

  • I could appreciate the wide variety of edible and non-edible items that can be made with the blade of which Coca is very demonized as a drug, is worth visiting it, run buy some things very good for health.

  • Not to be confused with the ChocoMuseo (which we did--at first), el Museo de la Coca is all about the history of coca--not chocolate. It's a small museum, located in San Blas, but there was plenty of ...  more »

  • Pretty small museum but definitely cool. Was free on the day I went
  • A friend suggested we visit here and we were so happy we did. For only 5 Soles we had a 30 minute chat with the owner, saw some beautiful and incredible history of this highly important cultural piece (the Coca leaf), and had a chance to shop in their very nice gift shop afterwards.
  • This museum has a breakdown of everything coca and cocaine from happy Incas chewing on coca leaves to first ever recorded snorting coke case to celebrities such as Freddy Mercury story about his falling of love in cocaine. The good, the bad, the everything. Also has a little shop where you can buy almost anything coca leaves from drinks to candy to coca leaves themselves.
  • Not free anymore, cost is S/.10. Overall pretty neat but short. Cool little exhibits and nice store. Worth a stop for a few minutes
  • They carry a great variety of coca products for sale. Very knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices.
