See a collection of art and artifacts at Museo de Arte Precolombino, a heritage center that sensitively and sympathetically details the artistic progress and cultural development of natives before the colonial era. Built on the site an Incan ceremonial court, the museum's main building was designed as a colonial mansion in 1580. A historic monument of Cusco reopened as a museum in 2003, the building  now displays a collection of artworks and objects from the pre-Columbian times. Take a tour of the museum to see the finely sculpted jewelry, ornate pots, and ceremonial masks made by native cultures between 1250 BCE and 1532 CE. • Excellent collection, and organized in an interesting way: chronologically and by material, gold room, silver room, etc. Good museography and installations.  more »
  • We were bowled over by the sophistication of some of the collection. The explanatory plaques were very useful, and the cloistered building tranquil. Also--eat here!  more »
  • I had a lot to learn about Precolombian art. Still do. This museum had good explanations of the pieces and culture. We really enjoyed it.  more »
  • Wonderful modern museum. It's compact, which is a plus: it gives you a good sense of many groups of native people (not just the Inca) by highlighting a few great pieces from each area and describing their significance with great signs. When we visited we took our time and spent about 1.5 hours there. Also admission was very inexpensive (20 soles for foreigners in general and 10 for students).
  • Outstanding museum with unique native Peruvian artifacts. Demonstrates extremely well the art of the ancient incas and other wonderful people. I highly recommend the visit.
  • This museum is a true gem. The selection of pre-Colombian artifacts is small but very well chosen, so that you don’t get exhausted by endless displays like in many other museums. Also, the quality and condition of the pieces is excellent. A must visit!
  • So beautiful and interesting.! Love the ceramic. Its a small museum, but very informative and a nice building! In the patio there are two ladies weaving and a fancy restaurant. Worth 15 soles!
  • Beautiful selection of fine arts, just a little from each culture and style. The Moche "potato" is probably the most interesting piece of art I have seen in Peru.
