Centro Historico De Cusco, Cusco
(4.8/5 based on 8,500+ reviews on the web)
At Centro Historico De Cusco, take a stroll through the heart of the oldest surviving city in South America. Formerly the capital of the Incan Empire, the old town still features many remnants of their extraordinary stonework. Beyond that, you'll see colonial-era houses, churches, convents, and, of course, the grand cathedral dominating a wide central plaza. As you explore, keep in mind that these Spanish constructions frequently sit atop visible Incan foundations. Restaurants and bars fill the narrow, cobblestone streets, offering everything from authentic Peruvian meals to expensive tourist traps, while shops sell cheap souvenirs, traditional handicrafts, and fine jewelry. Plenty of museums explore the history of the city through Incan, Quechua, and Spanish artifacts. • Went in September with my girlfriend and were amazed with Cuzco, where in each corner is walking between the history Inca and of it conquers Spanish. Within the Centro Historico, we find the Cathedral, the society of Jesus, Plaza de Armas, Museum of history Natural of Cuzco, the Plaza del Regocijo, the municipality of the city which is also a Museum, as hundreds of restaurants and bars. It is the ideal place to hire excursions (both inside and outside the city), major travel agencies can be found in the Plaza de Armas. There same a lot of Exchange can also be found (always remember to review 3 or 4 to obtain the most favorable exchange rate) and are also Rail Inca and Peru Rail agencies to buy the passenger train between Cuzco and Aguas Calientes. On the street in the middle (between the main square and the Plaza del Regocijo) is where you can buy the entrance to Machu Picchu or if you bought it online where to be removed. In the end, is the Center nerve of the city and where are the main attractions.
