Revash Mausoleo de los Chachapoyas, Chachapoyas
(4.6/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web)
Feel like an intrepid explorer at Revash Mausoleo de los Chachapoyas, a mysterious necropolis of the Chachapoya civilization. Dating back to pre-Inca times, these ingenious sculptures are carved straight into the side of the rock. What's more, they remain almost entirely intact. Many believe these to be replicas of the housing from the era. While not a hike in the strictest sense, the steep trek to the ruins demands appropriate footwear and a bit of muscle power. • In the region, each place is worth, but this time again what a reward. You think them inaccessible, then in "end of the world" as Peru can offer... they appear. Constructions and colors have defied time. Listen to the guide or let him sail his imagination... you see... the two are complementary. That day, we were alone on the site! We rented the small horses, my 20 years are a distant memory... and this helps a little people of the village. Rain threatened and a lady gave us ponchos, this is a detail, but still... What memories

  • These spectacularly situated mausoleums are well worth a visit together with the amazing museum in Lambayeque full of mummies from similar places. The canyon has a wonderful view. Note that there is a...  more »
  • Seeing this first-hand was awesome. I recommend it as a day trip to anyone who is interested in the archaeology of the area. No overwhelming crowds.
