Caverna de Quiocta, Chachapoyas

(3.3/5 based on 160 reviews on the web)
Bring a flashlight and explore Caverna de Quiocta, a system of spacious caverns filled with interesting rock formations, stalactites, and stalagmites. The caverns used to be ceremonial burial sites, so you can view ancient skulls and bones on the cave floor or in small niches in the walls. Besides a flashlight to illuminate the dark chambers, you'll need a decent pair of boots, as the cavern floors are very muddy and slippery from bat droppings. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Caverna de Quiocta and many more Chachapoyas attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Chachapoyas trip itinerary builder.

  • I went in January for Chachapoyas (my second trip to this beautiful place, and met Quiocta has amazing, colourful landscapes and a glorious sky.) In the cave, bats, natural rock formations can be seen. Recommend hire to a tour, in the city of Chachapoyas since for get to it cavern are approximately 30 min away of it city and must go with a guide that know the tour within the cavern because there are sites that are dangerous (but with e guide all will be well), the same tour les gives all the team necessary as boots and flashlights. They should be very light clothing that will be stained with mud, inside the cave not long ago cold.

  • From Quiocta cavern is a place where you can spend an exciting time because you can see the natural formations made by the continuous flow of water between the rocks forming structures with unimaginable forms, after many years (Estalacticas and stalagmites). You have to hire a guide for all you menearas, it is very dangerous if you're not going with them, because you can fall and know the route well, although it is difficult to get lost inside, but if it is very dark. Rent flashlights and boots by water that is inside the cave and mud. It is preferable to carry a light waterproof jacket because inside it is not too cold. I recommend to go in small groups for safety.
